Hey, my friend offered me to install xenon lights on my car for free and I can choose any model of them so that he orders. so I was wondering what's the law related to it? Which models are allowed and which arent? Are xenons with blue tint banned or is there any other ones that are banned>?

currently no law but can fail the NCT if the light is not aim properly and will look crap and blind other motorists especially if in standard refloector type lights.

    what car is it for?

Sorry to hijack the op's original query. I have a 2001 volkswagen bora, would xenons suit it?

As far as I can remember they dont have projector headlamps.

I know this for spot lights but the left is a projector, your headlights need that ball in the centre, the right light is your normal one, and the one I think that the passat has.

If you fit xenons do you also have to fit headlight lens washers ?

I thought it was a legal requirement aswell

I thought it was a legal requirement aswell

It is, along with an automatic levelling system.

Aftermarket items are technically illegal, although I can't see a problem if they are in projectors with the height and focus set appropriately.

I think it law that headlight washers and auto leveling have to be fitted on cars that have xenons from new. There is nothing about retrofitted kits. Its a gray area and the law is open to whatever you make of it yourself. There was new laws in the U.K about after market hid kits recently so they will more than likely follow here soon.

I personally can't wait until these are banned outright. Yes, I'm sure they illuminate the road in front of you brilliantly but that's not going to do you much good when one of the drivers you've blinded with them hits you head on.

The issue there is usually poor alignment and/or some twat putting them in reflector headlights.

Absolutely correct as far as I'm aware. Only factory fitted Xenons *must* have the washer kit attached.

+1 Reflector lights scatter the light all over the place. I have had xenons in both reflector and projector lights. The projectors are 10 times better. I would never use them in reflector lights again. The only time i have ever been really blinded by xenons were by some twat in a civic who never aligned them or had them set higher than they should be and a guy in a range rover which were probaly factory fitted!

There is very little in writing about it. The only thing i can see is that your main lights must be either yellow or white and alligned
