i have a hp slate 2 which(windows 7 tablet) has a hdmi port on the back of it.
I want to connect it to a vga monitor
the monitor i have has a vga and a digital port on the back of it?
is it possible to do this ?
should i get a vga to hdmi cable or a div-i to hdmi cable?
    does it mae much difference?
or do i need to go and buy a monitor with a dvi port on it?

DVI-HDMI would be the obvious choice, as your going digital -> digital. If you want to use VGA you would need a Digital to Analogue converter. You can get HDMI->DVI cables that should do the job nicely if the monitor has a DVI port, otherwise it would be less straight forward
