I have spent a few days looking at backups for my photos and stuff like that which I have stored on my home PC.

My initial requirements were to have a folder on my PC and have it synced somewhere online that would take very little work on my part. Here is what I have come up with

    Google+
If you use your phone as your main quick snap camera like me then this is a great start. Set it up to instantly upload your photos when connected to wireless (be wary of doing it over your 3G connection as it may gobble up your allowance)
    Picasa
This is linked to your Google+ account so what you see in Google+ you will see here too
    SocialFolders
Great tool that allows you to have a folder on your PC and sync it with Picasa, Facebook, Flickr, Photobucket, Google Docs, Box, YouTube, Twitter, SmugMug, Instagram and others.
    Allway Sync
This allows you to do a simple sync between chosen folders on your PC this is a great little tool
Box or DropBox or Google Drive
These are great for backups and there are PC/Mac utilities that allow simple dragging and dropping between folders

    So what I do is
Set up SocialFolders to sync all my Picasa photos to a folder on the PC called MY Pics
Use Allway Sync to keep My Pics folder synced with another online storage source (e.g. Dropbox, Box, Google Drive etc) You can skip this step as it really is only a backup of a backup and might be a bit over the top for some

So now once I take a photo on the smartphone it will go to Picasa (via Google+) automatically sync to MY Pics folder on the PC (via SocialFolders) and then sync to my Box account via the Allway Sync tool.

Here are a few links for anyone looking to set up their own automatic sync of photos etc

    SocialFolders
    Dropbox
    Box
    Allway Sync
    Picasa
    Google+

Best of all is that all these are free but if you need to extend storage you may need to pay extra (e.g. Dropbox or Google Drive only give a limited amount of storage)

Would like to see how others are doing backups as I am always wary of my PC going belly up some day and all my photos and stuff being wiped out

I use Sugarsync and flickr. Sugarsync comes with 5GB's free and you can have the folder on your PC syncing.

The big winner for me is the free storage of photos via Google+. (and also on Facebook if really needed and if you search around there is a link somewhere to get 50GB free from Box too just in case you wanted to backup there too)
From what I can see it seems you can upload an unlimited amount through the instant upload on the Smartphone to Google+. I don’t have an expensive camera so the phone is my main shooter and it’s now really easy to keep everything synced without having to plug in loads of cables and keep track of where everything is.

I use Windows live, 25gb space (might be only 7 for new members) and have an app on the iPhone that I can upload directly.
