Hey wrestling fans. The Saviour here with a special blog post after watching Over The Limit. There's really no need to say more. I'm going to get right into it.

Pre-Show Match: Kane vs Zack Ryder

I was actually expecting more of a squash that what it actually was. And Kane wins, which was to be expected. However, it goes to show that if you can get a catchy chant going, such as Ryder's Woo Woo Woo...The Crowd will eat it up.

    People Power Battle Royal

An entertaining battle royal that really accomplished two things. And the WWE was right in doing this. First, they turned Christian face. Second, and it was revealed later on, but they gave us Christian vs Cody Rhodes, which was absolutely the right move.

Tag Team Championship Kofi/Truth vs Ziggler/Swagger

What a very entertaining match. I'm not sure if this is a sign that they are investing more into the tag team division or not, but matches like this can definitely breathe life into something dead in the water. Kofi Kingston is a tremendous athlete. I love watching him and Ziggler in the ring together. For two years, they've been putting on some of the better performances in today's WWE, and they truly delivered tonight.

Divas Title: Layla vs Beth Phoenix

Not everything about Over the Limit was good. While this wasn't the worst Diva's match in the world, I seriously frown upon Layla getting the clean win here, without Beth being the victim of some sort of circumstance. Not sure what this one accomplished.

Fatal Four Way WHC: Sheamus vs Alberto vs Jericho vs Orton

I expected this match to be pretty good, but I expected it to be dry. And by dry, I mean, a few close calls, but really predictable and no much drama. However, I'm glad to report that I was dead wrong. This match was fantastic. And while Sheamus winning might not be popular to the internet masses, the finish was done very well, and the match did not disappoint.

    The Miz vs Funkasaurus

So this is what The Miz has been relegated to? The match wasn't a complete squash, which was good to see. I just don't understand why Funkasaurus is on PPV events, and high profile talent is being forced to job to him. And why did The Miz do the thriller dance? One of the low points of this PPV.

Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes vs Christian

As I stated earlier, this was definitely the right move. These two did put on a good match. Maybe even as high as a very good match. I hope this turns into a feud. I think these two can work together well. A new Intercontinental champ is crowned, and it went to another wrestler who can keep it relevant. That's three in a row now for the ol IC Title.

WWE Championship: CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan

Speechless after watching this match. I knew it would be a good technical wrestling match but I had no idea it would be a clinic like it was. These are the two top wrestlers and performers in the WWE in my book. I am now completely sold. I want this feud to continue, especially with how the match ended. But this match had it all, and it delivered 110%. Looking forward to more, and pending further matches between these two, I believe we may have watched a candidate for Match of the Year.

    Ryback vs Camacho

Why? Another very low point in the PPV. Perhaps the lowest, even more so than Miz n Funkasaurus. I think I should note though that it seems Ryback will be a botch machine. That sort of thing doesn't show when he's in there with complete squash jobbers, but when he's in there with next level jobbers, it shows more. Again, keep him off PPV until you figure out what you're going to do with him.

    John Cena vs John Laurinaitis

For those who hate Hogan because of the backstage political game he played, you should equally hate John Cena for the same sins. What an absolute travesty that this match is last, instead of Punk and Bryan. This was a complete waste of time. And Laurinaitis actually got offense on Cena? Ridiculous. And naturally, as if my 2 year old couldn't have figured out, Big Show turned heel and joined Laurinaitis. Behind the Ryback match, this was the lowest point of the PPV. Predictable, Poorly done, and a complete waste of our time and money.

In another point, WWE seriously needs to re-evaluate their commentator team. Booker T is very difficult to listen to these days. Jerry Lawler is better as the heel color commentator. As the face, he's starting to get repetitive and his quirky little comic one-liners aren't coming off as smoothly. And Michael Cole is, well, Michael Cole. He has very, very few moments of actually sounding good and delivering well. Unfortunately, those moments are so few, that they're very forgettable. That team killed the Daniel Bryan vs CM Punk match. They should really bring in JR for such matches.

All in All, the good definitely outweighed the bad. It was very enjoyable. There wasn't much left after the Punk/Bryan match, which is why it should have been last. But this PPV was very very good. Thumbs up to the WWE for delivering on this one after several poor Raw and Smackdown shows leading up to it.

Be sure to check out this week's Abdominal Stretch. I'm sure there will be lots to talk about after this week's Raw.

    Be Safe Everyone.

    People Power Battle Royal

these are normally fun to watch, but the second you heard Christian being mentioned, you knew he was winning, and when he got left against Miz & Otunga, you knew he was being face turned to go against Rhodes.

Tag Team Championship Kofi/Truth vs Ziggler/Swagger

Very solid match, a definite step in the right direction for the tag division.
It was just still lacking that something, and felt like MNR.

Divas Title: Layla vs Beth Phoenix

One of the better Diva's matches of recent (if that's possible), but can't see the sense in burying Beth, especially if they're still looking for the payoff when Kong returns.

Fatal Four Way WHC: Sheamus vs Alberto vs Jericho vs Orton

Bar the spotmonkey finish (although maybe you need that for a clean pin in a 4-way) it was a very solid match. The only question it raises is who's left to fued with Shemus? Big Show?

    The Miz vs Funkasaurus

Did I not just see this match two weeks ago?
Good again for Brodus to be shown to be beatable, but still doesnt belong on PPV

Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes vs Christian

Great to see Christian back, and that he's still got it.
You'd swear David Lagana had moved to WWE with the whole "guy wins title first day back", but if it accommodates Rhodes moving up the card, then it's served it's purpose.

WWE Championship: CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan

This was the main reason I watched it, and wasnt disappointed, match of the year so far (yes even better than 20-0).

ATTENTION VINCE! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET PEOPLE WRESTLE!

Shame about Punk botching the ending, but I'm sure they'll be able to work around it.
hopefully they don't fly through this feud too quickly, and let them main event Summerslam.

    Ryback vs Camacho

    Goldsquash! Goldsquash!

    John Cena vs John Laurinaitis

They tried to recreate the whole Austin-Vince thing, and it didnt really work that well, but at least Johnny got some offence.
The world and it's mother knew who was gonna win, just thought it would have been Brock or a surprise return (Batista?) that would have done the dirty.

Overall: Outside of the two filler matches it was pretty solid, and has steered things back in the right direction after two week of gawd-awful Raws & Smackdowns

    7.5/10

Yay for Christian's return but surprised he came back as a face

WWE, WHC, Tag and IC title matches were all great

Won €82 on an accumulator of Johnny, Layla, Punk, Sheamus and Kane :D And they say predictable PPV's are a bad thing.

Agree with most of those comments.

Thought the Punk & Byran match was incredible and without a doubt the best thing Ive seen in WWE for a long time.

Tag match was excellent to i thought.

Cena Laurinitis was pathethic in my opinion though and a terrible way to end a really entertaining PPV. Cena is just such a tool. All that stuff with the mic, the ringbell and fire extinguisher made me want to cry. Horrible, just horrible.

Other than that was really pleased with the event and would have been scored a 8.5 or maybe even a 9 for me but in the end it will be a standard 7

There was 3 matches on the card that weren't even mentioned before hand. It's a shame that the IC title has become a filler match on a PPV and had no build whatsoever. Having said that I think it's a good move to turn Christian and put the belt on him. Sick of Brodus/Ryback squash matches. Those kinda matches need to be left for Raws and Smackdowns. Such a shame they put Cena/Big Johnny as the main event over Punk/Bryan :(

pretty solid ppv no real surprises. they should of had big johnny vs cena on during the 2nd hour, that is my only complaint.

some incredible matches already this year

    taker v hhh

    cm punk v jericho 1 and 2

    d bryan v sheamus

    cena v brock

and now after last night cm punk v d bryan. summerslam give them 2 guys an iron man match

Wouldn't be surprised if they got comps as part of an emotional distress dispute after what they saw last time :P.

I really enjoyed Punk Vs Bryan and the fatal four way.

I thought the tag title match and the IC match were solid (great to see Christian back).

The Divas match was ok but it was the best Divas match in a long while.

I would have preferred if they gave more time to the world title matches or the IC match rather than have Clay (who Ive really grown to dislike) vs Miz (Another I really dislike) or the Ryback squash.

Then there was the main event Cena Vs Big Johnny. Big Show coming to help Johnny had to be the most obvious ending to a main event in years. Some of Cenas comedy was absolutely brutal through out. I was actually getting more enjoyment out the of the 3 lads on commentary laughing through out. Cant wait for a Cena vs Big show feud now

7/10. Would have been 8 if Big Show hadn't waddled out to help big Johnny.

Also that Cena loving family in the front row has to be a plant.

Bryan & Punk failed even to have a self concious ***** match. So DUD.

(Full disclosure: I went beddy bye bye before the show so I havent seen any of it.)

    Cena/Ace any good? :pac:

Only watched from the Fatal 4 Way, all the matches I saw were good (like everyone I thought Bryan vs Punk was excellent) but the main event was a complete flop, most of all because the majority of the crowd knew what was going to happen, so there was no "OMG WTF?!" noise from them when Big Show turned on Cena.

WWE are trying to make Cena vs Johnny seem like "Vince vs Stone Cold II", it will never happen. Vince is unparallel as a heel.

    Pros:

Christian return - Nicely done, should be a welcome readdition to the roster.

The Tag match - Some very good wrestling that went beyond just hot tags and restholds.

    Eve.

The fatal 4 way was a good mix.

Punk v Bryan - It was beyond what i was expecting, tbh. I know the guys have wrestled upteen times in the indies but i really expected the style they used to do to be held back in this match. Thank God it wasnt. Saved this ppv from being forgettable.

    The Ugly:

    Otunga. Why?

I like the Miz, he is a good talker and does his part really well. But him being beat twice by Clay does neither of them any favors.

Cody losing the IC title - If it means him moving up the ladder to whc placement than fine, but i think it should happen pretty soon and not have him hang around and get swallowed up by the midcard.

The 'Main event' - I'm so torn on this. Was it entertaining? Yeah. Was it a 5 star classic? No.
Was it predictable? Absolutely. On paper it looks like such a mess, constant joking, the commentary was basically non existant and it went on much longer than it should have.
Lauranitis is supposed to have a genuine japanese background from the 80s and i think they done him a diservice not even allowing him to make it some sort of a match inbetween all the tomfoolery and hijinks of a road runner cartoon.
In saying that, it was what it was. It could have been more, but it wasnt and as such wont for that reason wont be looked back on with fond memories over time. This match shouldnt have been on a ppv and should have been the ending to a 3 hour raw, tbh.

All in all a 6.5 for me. But i will round it up to a 7 seeing as there was ample eve screen time.

nah, the fact that the cameras were on them quite a lot after the big show interference & they were also at one of the Raw's between ER and OTL aswell

Gave it an eight, probably would've been a six or seven but Johnny saying 'Five time' on commentary made me laugh like little else in quite a while. Still think that Punk and Bryan, while very good last night, are capable of much better (and hopefully the finish indicates they'll get another shot). I preferred Bryan's matches with Ziggler.

Four was was a little disjointed at first but excellent by the end, Battle Royal was decent (though none of it as good as the Styles/Aries exchange in the Battle Royal on iMPACT!), tag title match was very fun and Christian/Cody was very meh. Johnny/Cena was rather entertaining though I doubt I would've been too pleased with it if I paid for it. And we're now five months since Punk main evented a PPV.

Giving it a 7/10, I hate giving it that number its such a lazy thing to do.
Glad captain charisma is back but gutted he is now a face and clearly out of the title picture :-(
IC match was ok think they'll be capable of better down the line. Tag Match was good glad Kofi picked up a win. Just didn't care about the Diva, Brodus vs Miz or Ryback squash. Really enjoyed the two title matches fatal 4 way was well planned out and executed. Bryan vs Punk was also good. Cena vs Laurinaitis was what it was, Big Show interfeering was obvious but it would of helped if he got fired 6/7 weeks ago instead of last week it may of shocked someone.

A solid 7.0/7.5 until the main event. It was funny for about a minute, then it just got sad. I don't know how anyone in WWE backstage can look to their colleagues and think that that was a good idea to main event a PPV. I'd have been raging if I had paid the entrance fee to watch that finish the show, when you have CM Punk and Daniel Bryan playing second fiddle.

when ace climbed over the barrier to go get big show was i the only one that saw him kick a small child in the face?
i am sure it was an accident but still

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

The main event and the Battle Royal went on way too long considering how little happened in either match. Cena/Big Johnny should have been at most ten minutes and definitely not on last. Big Show turning was more obvious than the sun coming up in the morning. Christian winning the Battle Royal was slightly less obvious, but only because they had the Miz in there. They were the only two possible winners.

The squash matches are a waste of time on PPV, obvious filler content. Scrap them and give that time to the two world title matches instead. Divas match was decent but Beth shouldn't have lost cleanly unless Kharma was coming out afterwards. Layla seems very sloppy now, she was improving big time before the injury but seems to have gone backwards now. Hopefully it's just the ring rust after missing a year.

Tag title match, four way and the IC title match were all very good. All had room for improvement, but none of them under delivered at least.

Punk vs Bryan ill have to watch again. Think giving it six stars was a bit generous :pac:

Was the ending a botch? Otherwise it didn't make any sense to have Punk tap out.

I really liked the WWE title match.

Crowd were up for it and the two lads looked to enjoy themselves. Time flew by while i watched it and the ending was really good. I would be delighted to see them have another match.

It was interesting to hear the Cena fans chanting for Punk and the MITB Punk fans chanting for Bryan. Shows WWEs booking of Punk is getting him over with that side of the audience. Pity they can't let give a bit of something for all.

    FIVE TIMES:D:pac::cool::D:D

That was great, the ending of the match was not. Credit to Big Johnny I thought he did his job brilliantly, Cena did some entertaining things but it felt like a mid card match rather than main event.

Tag match was good I thought. Kofi is the perfect tag wrestler. If WWE pushed him strong as part of this team and let the tag titles mean something it would do him a lot of good. Keep him away from the spot where WWE use him to put over main eventers who just lost at a PPV!

All four did well in the match.

    I am warming to Ryback:o

Rest was fine and entertaining in its own way.

I would like WWE to do something with Riley and with Kidd (Especially Kidd).

I admit I fast forwarded through Miz and Brodus. Boring!

*Battle royal was fun, Christian makes a better face though I really wish they'd take notice of Tyson Kidd based on his performance in this
*tag match was typical but still very good. WWE seem to be trying with the tag team titles so at least they're on champions who will be pushed and will be on TV as well as being over. Ziggler and Swagger should get another shot, I could see them winning the titles in the future
*best Divas match since Vengeance really. people bitched when Beth loses via roll-up, they bitch when she loses cleanly. it's not like Layla's a rookie with no experience, she's been in WWE just as long as Beth and is a former 2-time champ who needs the credibility if she's going to feud with Kharma
*amazing Fatal 4 Way match. i was afraid they'd switch the title but the right man won. Sheamus is still growing as a champion and needs a long reign. not a good idea to have him feud with Orton though. Sheamus is fairly popular but he needs to feud with a heel the fans don't like. the closing moments were just chaos and i loved it
*Brodus is a better wrestler than he's given credit for, great T-Bone off the top. Over the Limit just isn't Miz's PPV, i think he's in desperate need of a face turn or a complete repackage to be saved from the abyss he's fallen into
*hot potato with the IC title continues but i'm happy Christian isn't being buried anymore. great moonsault press by Rhodes
*Punk/Bryan was 10/10 and I want more dammit
*i feel guilty for laughing at the main event but the end was predictable and uninspired

    Positives

Tyson Kidd getting to show a little of what he can do on a PPV.

    Return of Christian.

Good Tag match. Finally looks like the return of a decent tag division.

    Beths Tits and outfit.

Fatal 4way had 4 very good in ring performers and had lots of decent spots and Sheamus retains!

Punk v Bryan. Damn that was good. Match of the year!

    Negatives

Commentary- people give out about Cole and Booker T but King is 10 times worse. During the tag match he just spent the whole time talking about Vickie Guerrero. Sickening

Fat tub of sh*t Brodus Clay had me rooting for the Miz. Nuff said.

Goldberg v Lenny Kravitz squash match on a PPV

Main event a joke and embarrassment to wrestling
