i reckon a 206 1.4hdi is the smallest engine in a factory car van. you could convert a 3 door 1.1 petrol car.

why do you need such a small engine? is it because of the tax rates?

    Insurance I'd imagine.

when i first started driving it was cheaper to insure a 1.9 tdi golf van than a 1.4 golf car. maybe things have changed now

1.3 Corsa van (1248cc) is probably the smallest, not sure if its available here

However, as said, engine size is nowhere near as relevant for vans as it is for cars, insurance wise.

Can you get the 1.2TDI in any of the VAG products that would be commercialised?

Tax on a commercial van is 310, no matter the engine size
Insurance shouldn't really matter - its unlikely to be much cheaper if at all
A well laden van on a small engine is likely to use *more* fuel than a van with a more suitable sized engine.

The UK doesn't really have a better range - particularly when it comes to second hands, primarily because our old VRT regime allowed domestic market conversions. Focus vans, C4 vans, etc don't exist in the UK.

They have a small number of new ones which aren't sold here - Punto for instance - but that's about it.

Small vans like that are a bit pointless imo (the likes of a Corsa) unless you need the back covered so people cant see in. Your paying around the same tax and dont have the use of the 5 seats if you ever need them. Better off just getting a car and dropping the seats.

The old model Corsa B was available as a van with the 1.0 3 cylinder engine.

Bag o' spuds is all you could carry in the back of that yoke with the 1.0l engine...

There was a Micra van, yaris van and even a Seicento van

    tapicerka_seicento_van_4

I drive a 1.2 van myself (conveniently) but I'm not commercial. No point going commercial with that small of an engine, tax wouldn't justify it!

Best with a 1.6 Focus van imo :)

My brother once hired an Opel Combo with what I think was a 1.3L diesel engine. He commented that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as he thought it would be.
