They should never be left near WHL again.

Fcuking eijits. Fair enough them thinking that, but to express it on a public social networking site, what were they thinking?

They did nothing wrong whatsoever. Shows class that they'd congratulate them. Twitter is full of idiots.

completely disagree, we pay their fcuking wages. Clowns the two of them. They wont be with us next season anyhow , a small consolation.

Would you prefer if they tweeted that they hate Chelsea and they didn't deserve to win ? :D

All they have done is congratulate a victorious opponent. Did Ian Holloway disgrace Blackpool yesterday when he congratulated Sam Allardyce ? It happens in all sports where there is a winner and a loser. Sitting there moping about doesn't do anyone any favours.

Here's a quote from the article quoting Saha ...
‘No CL for Tottenham but FairPlay to Chelsea. Great victory great final for them.

The Frenchman added: ‘If we had lost with Spurs the final of CL against Chelsea and Drogba had played like yesterday i would have congrats them the same way.

‘U can hate me if u want. U can hate everyone if u want. U wont make me hate football and the view of winners. #fairplay even if gutted.’

He's expressed the fact he was gutted but was happy to congratulate the winning team. There's **** all wrong with that, it's not being a weak mister nice guy etc. All it was was simply acknowledging Chelsea's achievement.

I'm as gutted as anyone here - check my posts from last night - I was like a demon, I'm very very pissed off that we aren't in the CL, It sucks and it's beyond unfair IMO but that doesn't mean I can't say fair play to Chelsea for taking their chance.

Why didn't they keep there thoughts to themselves instead of sharing them with millions knowing it would upset some. I suppose one of them is hopefully leaving anyway and the other one is angling for a move too so they deemed it ok. Fcuk the pair of them. Call me bitter if you like. As I said, reverse the roles, would terry, lampard, cole and the likes be congratulating us, i think not...

Also, your comparison to Blackpool/West Ham is mind boggling.

I agree with Pageant Messiah tbh. These things on twitter are easily taken out of context.

Worryingly it shows just how little the modern footballer cares about anything more then their pay packet. It would be nice if one of our players came out and was genuinely annoyed and worked up about missing out on CL next season but they are too busy getting a tan on a yacht in the med by now or getting ready to put themselves in the shop window at the euro's.

There's a big difference between congratulating a winning team when you've just lost to them (i.e. Holloway) and doing what Saha and Pienaar did. Gumps, the pair of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,994 ✭✭✭KingdomYid

They should have stayed quiet in fairness. A little bit of sensitivity towards the people who pay their wages should come before any congrats to fellow pros.

They congratulated a team for winning the Champions League. What the hell is wrong with that? Doesn't mean they aren't disappointed. Some Spurs fans have really gone off the ball after this season. As disappointed as i am, i still congratulated the few Chelsea fans i have...does that make me ****in eejit that's never allowed near WHL again? Doesn't matter if they are paid by the club, it's common courtesy to congratulate the winning team.

Be disappointed, but at least try and show a little class about it.

Are you for real? , difference between you congratulating chelski fans and them is that we don't pay your wages , we pay those 2 clowns wages!!!

    show a little class you say.......unbelievable !!

If we had shown half the application Chelsea showed on Saturday night for the month of March we would have had nothing to worry about.

Nothing to see here except 2 professionals send best wishes to fellow pros for reaching the pinnacle of the club game.

Anything less than a congratulations from all at Spurs is a little petulant imo. As I've said its nothing to do with Chelsea that we finished where we did.

So because Spurs pay their wages they shouldn't congratulate a team for what is a pretty amazing achievement? Regardless of how Chelsea won it, they won it...and they deserve the congratulations. We've no one to blame but ourselves for not getting a CL spot, and refusing to say "Well done" (regardless of how gutted they are), just seems petty.

I think we should breed players who aspire to be more in terms of a person than John Terry and the likes, berba.

Saha is a thoroughly decent individual and Pienaar was shipped off in January. Neither have done anything wrong here imo.

Because they all use that social network site and it's not a private matter. They said congratulations to Chelsea for a massive achievement. It's not like Chelsea beat us in the final...and even if they had you'd still hope we'd be gracious in defeat and congratulate them.

The Bayern players shook the hands of all the Chelsea players after the match...Stephen Ferris congratulated Leinster for winning the Heineken Cup final yesterday...it happens all the time, and long may it continue.

Being gracious in defeat isn't something that should be frowned upon.

At a time when all spurs fans were hurting they could have employed a little more tact.

Simply saying nothing publicly would have sufficed.

I presume you think Terry and co wouldn't have congratulated us if the roles were reversed because you think so little of them and their behaviour in recent years. Why then is doing the opposite of their thuggish behaviour something to be criticised for ? Do you want our players to act like them ?

Grow up?? There's a bit of difference between all those examples above and what happened with Cheslea getting CL instead of Spurs. None of those clubs will miss out massively on losing what they lost, however the consequences for Spurs as a club, without trying to exaggerate, could be dire. Modric for one will probably leave, Bale could, those our 2 of our most potent attracking options. Not only that but our transfer targets will be lowered, for the obvious reason of not having CL and for also not having the funds the CL generate. Also there's the small matter of our current manager, he needs to be replaced. He lost the players with all his talk of England, and made some baffling decisions throughout the season that had an obvious negative impact on the team. How many managers will want to take over Spurs now?
So as you can see there's a bug difference in the examples you gave and consequences for Spurs of Chelsea winning the CL. To repeat, they're a pair of gumps, they could at least have said nothing and showed some sensitivity towards their employers and their employers' fans.

How about Relegated players congratulating the teams who avoided the drop?

Or Blackpool congratulating Reading, Southhampton and Westham?

In both the scenes above, the loss is infinately bigger than Spurs missing CL football. And both happened with out "gumps" of supporters acting like tits.

After that the next oldest players are Mexes, Bonera, Ibrahimovic and Amelia at 30...

    Over 35's indeed...

I don't understand football fans. Everyone is on saying that the likes of Terry would never post what the two lads did. True, but he's hardly the role model off the pitch I'd be looking for. We aren't in the CL because we finished fourth when third was for the taking. I'm as gutted as anyone, but look at Twitter and see Munster players congratulating Leinster and think, who's a better role model, JT or the likes of Paul O Connell. At least Terry had the honesty to admit the goal in the semi never was.
I love my football, and have been a Spurs supporter since 1972, when I was 6. I've little idea why, but I think it was Pat Jennings tbh. However, I also love GAA and rugby, and I have to say the attitude among soccer supporters stinks. Blaming or begrudgung Chelsea is loser mentality. We're out because we left ourselves exposed to the risk of being supplanted by CL winners. It could have been worse. Imagine if Chelsea finished third and Arsenal won the CL on Saturday night. That would have been a real disaster.
Chelsea were lucky, and limited to the point of being negative, but they were heroic ever since the Napoli home game. I just hope that Spurs have the same mentality someday. Gallas turning his arse to a forty yard shot at Villa proved to be the final nail in our CL coffin, along with HR leaving Defoe in the dugout when a goal left things in our own hands.
If Dawson had been there he would have took it in the face. His injury took some of the heart and balls out of the team. We need players willing to kill or die for the lilywhite shirt. It's not what our players say, it's what they do.
Come on lads. Let's man up and accept what has happened. Pienaar and Saha showed class/naivety/whatever. It doesn't matter as long as they, or any other Spurs player gives it on the pitch every day they go out. The last time Spurs fans got so outraged was when Ghaly threw his shirt down. He was stupid, but I remember him playing on with his front teeth stuck in the pitch at Portsmouth. They were retrieved at half time. Compare that to Modric's behaviour at the start of the season. I know which I consider most disrespectful, but I was still delighted when he stayed and played his little legs off until Harry ran him into the ground.
Sorry. Rant over. I just wish football fans had a little less hatred in their hearts. Abramovic would probably have bought Tottenham if Jesper Gronjaer hadn't fired Chelsea into the CL in the last game of 2003-4. We might feel differently about Russian oligarchs and bought trophies then.
Congratulations Chelsea, and Arsenal, and I hope we beat the crap out of them next year, with 11 players who want it more than their opponents.
    rant properly over.

No offence but I could not give a crap about Munster, egg chasing or any other sport to be honest, I do see where you are coming from but to be honest I will never say well done Chelsea as I have disliked them for a long time and they have some unsavoury characters amongst their playing staff.

Firstly, comparing us, to Munster/Leinster is laughable, maybe you feel it's a good comparison, which is fair enough, everyone to there own.

You have supported us since 72, longer than me, so surely you understand the rivalry and hatred to a certain extent between the 2 clubs no ?

Oh lets be like Chelsea and have their spirit, eh no thanks, we are Tottenham, I'd rather worry about my own club than spend time back slapping our arch rivals.

Anyway, probably going off topic now..

After we beat Chelsea in the Carling cup a few years ago John Terry was been interviewed after the game,he said something like this,'we played badly today, but even playing badly we should still have beaten Tottenham' It was a put down that I will never forgive him for.And he wasn't congratulating us on our win that day either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,916 ✭✭✭Ormus

Pienaar is unlikely to ever be a Spurs player again and never had a happy time here. Why would he have any affection towards the club? He hasn't shown any lack of respect to the club or its fans by congratulating Chelsea.

Saha has only been with us a few months and his future is up in the air. He congratulated a winning team. Big swing.

Lets hold the linch mob back for now.

Bravo my friend, very well said.

I don't think the rugby/football comparison is laughable at all. I like both games but I think football is better. But when you watch them both in one day you really start to notice how much honour and integrity there is in rugby. Real men. And then football is full of diving and cheating and moaning.

It's messed up that people get angry at our players congratulating a winning team. How dare our players be gracious in defeat. They should be banned for life for that sort of behaviour. I hope that they will be forced to go on twitter to say that they regret their disgusting display of good sportsmanship and promise to bitch and moan about their opponents from now on.

^^^ I agree. I thought wendell made a very good point.

I guess it just felt like our own players where rubbing salt in the wounds.

On a slighlty different topic, has HR or Levy or anyone come out with direct comments about the fact that we are no longer in the CL draw. I though HR would have been cap in hand to the press with a 'woe is me' story by now but I havent seen any direct quotes to date

Harry is too busy asking Rosie to remember the account number so he can have some spending money for his holidays :-D

Hardly a word said by Harry or the Club since Saturday nights events,I'm wondering are they planning a court case against UEFA,they're keeping very quite.

Kyle Walker only favoured Bayern 'a little'...... Unbelievable! Should we call for his head too or is he too good to give out about? :)

The defender admitted he had mixed emotions as he watched the Champions League final last Saturday. “I had mixed emotions as I know Ryan Bertrand, he was making his debut and Chelsea are an English team, but I want to test myself at the highest level so I favoured Bayern a little."

I would guess more for being old and injury prone.
