Laptop Instant Death

My sons Acer 5738G Win7 64bit Laptop works perfectly fine under normal conditions but the minute it’s put under pressure it powers off instantly. I don’t mean it shuts down in the conventional way; it latterly dies a sudden death, as if you pulled the mains plug from the wall & had no battery installed. Once restarted it works fine again until it gets put under pressure.

It doesn’t give any warning whatsoever & on start-up it doesn’t give any of the normal messages associated with an incorrect shut down such as, “this machine was incorrectly shutdown” and offering to start-up in safe mode or last known good configuration, it starts-up perfectly normal.

Two examples of what I mean by putting it under pressure are,

    1. Playing Minecraft for even a short period.
    2. Attempting to make an Acronis image of the machine to a external HDD. (It allows you to go through the setup process and starts the image backup but dies 2 Mins into the operation and it does this everytime I attempt it.

I have carried out the following in an attempt to see if it corrected the issue but with no joy.

    1. Re-installed from scratch.
    2. Removed both sticks of RAM and tried each in each of the 2 individual socket

It doesn’t appear to be overheating either, as stated, it works perfectly fine under normal conditions without ever powering off, i.e. Surfing, email, Word-processing etc.

Anyone come across this problem? Or have any suggestions as to what may be causing it?
