Www.paristaylorhotel.com gets good write ups in the Sunday times travel section....reasonably priced too

www.accorhotels.com or www.etaphotel.com are both good sites. They have loads of hotels and range from cheap to pricey but all are nice.

The Ibis hotels are always good and normally around €100 ish for a double/twin room in areas like the bastille or around the train stations.

The etap hotels are like fancy hostels. You can book a room for about €60-70 and have three people in it. They are very basic but the ones I stayed in were clean and secure.

It doesnt really matter where you stay in Paris as the metro is so good you can hop on anywhere. Sometimes the train journeys are free out to the stadium but I always bought a ticket early just in case so as to skip any q's or if I needed to run for the last train!

I have been to the Ibis Bastille a couple of times and like the area. Lots of bars and rest around and on the metro.

Don't stay near the stadium, it's very far out and not the most salubious neighbourhood

Absolutely, I agree 110% St Denis is a dump & I'm being kind!

I suggest you find out where you'll be spending the "afters" & pick a hotel close by. etap/accor/B&B/Ibis etc are fine. Personnaly I use Logis de France but then I live in rural France :D

As said above the transport system is good but if I was you I'd want to be in staggering distance of my room :P

We've always stayed in and around the touristy areas and close to a metro, the Ibis hotels are basic but fine.

Last time we stay in Eiffel Sene Hotel - near the Eiffel Tower :D, a bit away from other tourist attractions but a lovely hotel, a tad more expensive too. The receptionists were great in giving advice.
