Canceling Sky

My current subscription to sky expires on 30 June 2012. Can I give them the 30 days notice now or do I have to wait until 1 June. Just I will be on holidays at start of June and can't really spend a fortune calling sky from overseas.

Can I just put my cancellation in writing to them?

Also I have a 1TB HD sky box - any idea how much I would get for it if I sold it?

You can ring now and cancel, they just want at least 30 days notice.

There was a chap selling brand new 1TB boxes on adverts for 100 Euro last week so I'd say you'd get ~€80 for yours.

Rang this morning and they refused to allow me cancel or take the notification of cancellation from me until 31 May 2012. They said it has to be 30 days exactly before the contract expires. Refused to allow me speak to a manager. I'm certainly more adement than ever to cancel now. Can I put the request in writing to sky?

That's disgraceful, was it the Irish or UK call centre?

I cancelled last night after 8 years of service. They offered me 25% off for a year but I had to commit to a year contract. I politely declined. Can I expect them to get back to me with a new offer before the 31 days are up? I have been on the end of some generous discounts throughout the years with them. Maybe I have used them all up..

Still no reply from the polite email I sent yesterday.

Rang Sky yesterday as it was 31 days before my contract was up, said I wanted to cancel.
They offered me 25% off for a year but asked if they could improve the offer as I was on a 50% off for a year deal (38.75 for extra, sports and HD). Was told that a supervisor would ring me in 10 minutes. No call after 2 hours.
Rang them back and explained what I was offered and that I was expecting a call from a supervisor.
They then offered me 50% off for 6 months but HD would have to be full price with this offer.
So cancelled the HD and ended up getting extra and sports for 31.25, happy with that. No contract either.

The no contract part is the best bit. You can make the same threat in 6 months

What is extra? The basic package plus some additions?

Extra is entertainment extra package, this costs 33 euro and has more channels than the basic entertainment package which is 25 euro.

    To: estenquiries@BSkyB.com

I called yesterday to cancel my service but was informed that I would not be able to do this.
I was told that I need to give 30 days notice only on the day when there are 30 days remaining on my contract.
I'm sure this is incorrect and must be a misunderstanding on the Agent's part - I'm sure they meant I had to give Sky a minimum of 30 days notice served at any point before the end of my contract.

I would now like to give you in excess of 30 days notice to cease my sky a/c 4000XXXXXXXXX on the date that the 12 months contract expires and not beyond that date.

Can you please advise me by return email what day the service will cease on a/c 4000XXXXXXXXX and when the final bill will be issued.

I do not want to be contacted by telephone in relation to this matter and I would also like my details removed from all cold calling lists in Sky

    Regards

    Mr Badger

In late August/ early Sept you will get the first of a series of 2-monthly begging letters inviting you to rejoin $ky with your original package now available for half price for 12 months:D

Glad it all worked out for you.

Just found this thread, i know its late. but..

YOU MUST CANCEL YOUR DIRECT DEBIT WITH YOUR BANK ALSO if you cancel Sky.

they will attempt to take money from your account some months later,

personal experience, confirmed unofficially by bank staff.
