L Plate Position

Hi, I've been lurking for ages on these boards and find them really useful! :)
But now I have a quick question - My driving test is tomorrow and I was wondering about the L-plates... The ISM dvd says that the correct position for the L-plates is the top right-hand corner of the front and back windows. Also friend told me that if the L-plates are not in this position, the tester can just point blank refuse to do the test. I have magnetic L-plates, which are displayed clearly on the main body of the car. Is that ok, or should I rush out today to buy the sticky ones for the windows instead?
The RSA forms that come with the test confirmation don't specify.
    I hope someone can help...

I don't know the answer to your question (so feel free to ignore this post :p) but you might be better off playing it safe and getting the stick-on L plates as well. It would be a pain to show up if they refuse to let you sit the test.

Well when I did my test I had them on the windows, top right corner. Plus they look stupid on the body of the car. I saw one car which had an L-plate on one of the headlamps. Wtf? Good look with the test. Don't forget to check the mirrors.

Front and rear windows, good luck with your test, let us know how you get on ;)

As far as I know, the magnetic L-plates on the boot and bonnet of the car are fine, once they are clearly visible. I think the RSA recommend that if you are doing this, you try and find as vertical a surface as possible. Just make sure they don't fall off :p

If you have ones for the window, then don't follow the ISM advice - it is much better to do the following:
    Front window: Top left corner
Back window: Bottom right corner (drivers side) - as low as it will go.

Putting a front L-Plate on the right hand side, in front of the driver, is idiotic as it will impede your vision.

Every car is different so there are no specified L-plate positions as such - if you are unsure about your current setup, then ask your instructor if you can do a lesson/pretest in your own car, and they can advise you!

I had magnetic L plates on the car when I did my test the front one centered and about 2 inches up from the edge of the bonnet and the the rear one on the right side of the rear body work (hatchback) beside the number plate no issues with the examiner. My car is dark grey so you can't miss the L plates.

Thank you for the responses. Just to be safe, I ended up getting a pair of stick on ones too, but my curved back window wouldn't take it (and it was hindering my view anyway). So for the test I had an stick on L Plate in the front window, and a magnetic L plate on the rear. The tester didn't bat an eyelid. Anyway, I passed the test first time in Finglas. So thrilled! :D
