Heres the deal -I am with sky 6 yrs- never missed payment /had problem.
paying 25e month for my packages.
i signed up to 6month deal- half price sports and movies. 40e approx per month.
this half price deal ended in April.
I did ring on March 6th to give 1months notice that I would be ending the deal. i sent email also.

They continued with the service for April.
They charged me 64e and 68e for April and May.
I rang, complained and they just offered me a deal for an upgraded sky plus box and free service for the month of May.
I am not happy... I was as usual on hold for an eternity (18EURO PHONE CREDIT)
I told them i was leaving them and stopped my bank paymenys to sky. i cant believe they want to charge me for a new sky plus box.
I just got a bill for 23e in the post.
What would you do??? i heard the basic channels still work when you cancel sky...is this true?

if your still paying for it or still have the channels you were paying for until the end of the month take out the sky card & you'll see what channels you get without paying

You shouldn't have stopped your bank payments, that usually ends up with you getting letters from collection agencies and afaik has an effect on your credit rating.Ring them back and ask to speak to a supervisor or cancellations, that'll get you sorted.

When the channels from sky stop working, take out the card, plug out the box from the mains and plug it back in, this should change the channel epg to Freeview UK (depending on the box) for eg, 101 will become BBC1 instead of RTE1, 115 = BBC3 and so on You will also get Film 4 CH4,5 ITV Sky News and so on, about 50 or 60 free stations worth talking about.

If you want to get RTE1,2 etc you will need to get an aerial and a Saorview box as the Analog will be switching off on the 24th of October this year.

If RTE1 is still on RTE1 not BBC once you take the card out and reset it, you will need to tune in some of these stations manually and store them to other channels.

Bollox on the credit rating. Sky are not part of the official credit rating. Note like the esb they will say this will effect your credit rating with US..the only institutions on the credit system are banks credit unions and finance houses. Like any business they have only the official means of getting money off you which do not work unless they want to go to court and get a judgement against you..which costs hundreds if not thousands..so ignore them..or pay them..but i think ignoring them is a better option. And i hate it when people with afaik give advice.

Did the email go to the correct place? Did you get a reply? If so, this is good evidence and should be brought to their attention.

Sorry to hear this, but it would have made more sense to call from a landline or call at a time when the queues were shorter (don't they tell you the expected wait time when you are on hold?).
I told them i was leaving them and stopped my bank paymenys to sky.
That is not the proper way to cancel a service. It would be better to cancel over the phone or in writing and explain your reasons why, ensuring you give 30 days notice.
i cant believe they want to charge me for a new sky plus box.
Loyalty means nothing with Sky. You are not entitled to anything despite being a customer for years. However, what box do you have now and how much was the supply/install of the new HD box? Anything <€50 is probably reasonable if you were considering staying with them for another year.

Main UK channels only, plus a lot of muck. Pull out the Sky card, reset the box and see what you have. There's also NO recording or live pause at all with no active subscription.

It seems that they are sharing details of people with bad credit history with other subscription/pay tv companies. These companies don't want to take on customers who have a history of leaving behind unpaid bills plus I've seen addresses blacklisted due to previous tenants not paying Sky bills.

AFAIK ignoring them is not the best advice;)

You think it a good idea to let Sky take money for a service which has been cancelled under Sky's own terms?

I would reply to the bill, enclosing a copy of it, and a copy of the cancellation email, pointing out that the service was cancelled as they specified, and demanding a return of the monies they took fraudulently from my account, before I cancelled the DD with the bank.

So long as the communication channels are kept open there should be no adverse affect on credit rating .... it being an ongoing dispute.
