    Hi all

Would anybody here know how much a 1943 "chickless" penny would possibly be worth. I have seen the values for 1942 and 1968 chickless but to have a 1943 is quite rare apparently.

Many sellers on ebay are trying to flog coins for higher prices claiming they're "Chickless" when in fact they're not, so I'd be very careful using that term and talking about valuations.

For a penny to be truly chickless the beak of the chick behind the missing one should also be missing and there's a notable difference in the shape of the rear wing behind the clasped claw (the part that looks like an arrow). Here's a close up of what they should look like:

If you look closely at what many of these sellers claim are chickless coins you'll see the beak of that chic is still visible and so is part of the underbelly of the chick that's supposed to be missing. So these are NOT chickless.

These sellers p*ss me off for two reasons, firstly they're chancers trying to con people and secondly ruining the value of TRUE chickless coins. By flooding the market with all that crap people won't know the difference and think there's loads of them around thus lowering the value of real ones.
