    Hey guy's/gal's.

Quick question been trying to find info on why Tallaght fm closed in 2008.

Quick bit of info on my part as to why im looking for info, I moved to Tallaght fm a year before Beaumont Radio closing down.

I contiued on from my show that i had in Beaumont in Tallaght fm two years on after moving over to tallaght fm and having my show on the air all or the majority of shows got pulled and basically had to apply to have a slot apart from that I cant see any reason for it to shut down.

Does anyone know why it closed was it due to the running of the station by management (which is why i left) or was it lack of funding.

Was the equipment sold or was it donated to another station.

Without going into too much detail but the main guy who ran the station also part owned the station and bold held all the cards and wasn't the best when it came to delegation. Over time there was trust issues in relation to how he did things, so much so that it led to a lot of staff throwing hats at it all. When it was clear that this would lead to the end of the station the tune was changed but it was too late for the station to be saved. The then BCI gave them every chance to sort things out but it wasn't to be and the licence was returned and extinguished.

Contrary to what you say, the talent was there (Several of the staff had radio training, full and part time) and while there was financial issues, it was more to do with fundraising being put on the back boiler, loss of sponsorship sales and a loss of volunteer donations that led to this, not shareholder investment. I must find out if the station equipment is still in situ, I would have assumed that it was all stripped out long ago.

That was my thought on the equipment being stripped out however i was talking to someone in the square management and they had said everything was still there.

When I left it was down to management in the station as he dumped shows left right and center and these were the prime time shows with good listenership.

If he was the same person you mention above then the station was doomed from the time he and his wife (who was only a presenter) took over.

I contacted my friend who was deeply involved in Tallaght FM. He told me that the studio was indeed stripped down and got rid of.

Sold, I should imagine. From what I recall, most of it wasn't cutting edge so there wouldn't have been much cash worth from it; I'm sure some home studio would have found a home for it.

As a person who was deeply involved as a volunteer I can report as to what happened the station, I was involved in the last three years of the station and it was sad to see it go down hill, towards the end the final year the staff took to runing the station as the management had lost total interested in it, the board seldom meet, and management where hard to find and seldom available which left the staff to run the show, management and staff never got on, and good ideas were shot down by management, there was a bad feeling between staff and management, the staff were making great progress with new programming, editing, liners and ovenight loop containing the required talk and music content required by the BCI, the main management didnt like this, and along with huge debts to the Square, Esb, on air insurance and various costs decided to close the station with short notice given to the staff, as a result some staff who gave equipment to the station decided to remove it before the end, and in the last few days of broadcasting much of the gear was taken back, the main link gear was rented and the Transmitter remains with management along with other outdated gear, There have been attempts to start a new station by staff and others ( not previous mamagement ) but its a long road and many have been stung before.

Is Dublin South FM not licensed to cover Tallaght?

    From DSFM website:

Dublin South FM is the BAI licensed Community Radio Station for a catchment area covering Parts of Dundrum, Churchtown, Rathfarnham, Ballinteer, Kilmacud, Goatstown, Stillorgan, Windy Arbour, Milltown, Mount Merrion and Sandyford.

The signal fron DSFM is very weak in the Tallaght area, once you drive past Firhouse towards Tallaght the signal fades, as Dundrum shopping centre is in a dip the signal cant reach west and they dont cover there coverage area, they should use a mountain site around Rathfarnham which would be in there area, also there audio is often over modulating and nobody seems to sort it, a few years ago Comreg had to visit them and sort it !

Apart from the over modulating they had harmonics all over the band for a number of weeks.....

Tallaght FM appeared to be a tight set up but it all went awry in the last few months - with an audience the size of Limerick at their disposal it highlights the difficulties of operating within the BAI constraints. 7-9-11 was another community station that failed.

As somebody who was a volunteer I was also shocked to hear that the station had closed down, but I hear a radio station when I am over in the square, where is that coming from?

Any one know David, who also volunteered there?

The audio in the Square is just a computer or playlist with various adds from shops and units in the Square, its just like supermarket, alot of people tryed hard to save Tallaght Fm, however the management who were seldom around drove it into the ground, as they seemed too have there own ideas and wouldnt listen to the volunters Bci
and people from other stations who were willing to help them, even Craol tryed to help, at a meeting the staff tryed to get rid of the board ! but they had already told the bai they were closing before staff knew, Dave Johnson maybe the person you mean, He and others tryed to save the station, but with various people stung in the Square and BCI it was impossible to get a new station on air again as the management had done so much damage !

Yes David, I never knew his second name though, which meant I couldn't find him, I tried so hard, I did, but there are so many Davids. If it is the same David, we did a show together with Christina that went out on Mondays. You may tell David that I am trying to find him, does he have Facebook? Is he on here as well? Hello and thank you to everybody who worked on or just listened to the shows, I really liked doing the show with David, what is he doing now?

you see I never knew his second name, so trying to find him was proving rather difficult. I've searched the name and found lots of Dave Johnsons, but I don't know if they are the right ones, so I've done nothing in case they aren't.
Several times I've gotten the wrong people on the net, and its kind of scary, they could be axe murderers.

Still no luck in tracing David, I've tried Facebook, Twitter, here (maybe pestered one or two of you, sorry about that), and I've even put a video up on YouTube. :)

At least we know now that it is not Dave Johnson, t'was confirmed by the station manager himself.

The David i am looking for had curly dark hair, average height, average weight, wore a white shirt, had a back-pack (the kind some use for school/college), did Theology, liked Rodrigo & Gabriel.

I need help in tracking him down, i know there are other ways to search on Facebook, but i'm just not good at putting in the right filters with what i know. Just because he came to Tallaght FM doesn't mean he lived in the area, i don't. Did he do Theology in Tallaght IT, or elsewhere, actually i asked that question in the Tallaght IT section already, i put up a new thread.

Is there anybody really really good at searching for people on Facebook with just a first name who would like to help me?
