Power steering on MINI ONE

My mother has a 03 reg Mini One with 84,000 miles on it. She has it about 6 years and bought it with 30odd k miles on it.

Anyways I'm at the parents tonight and she said the car makes a noise when she turns tight corners, as into a driveway or 90 degree plus corners. I went out and when you turn it on full lock either way it kind of clicks/thuds from around the power steering fluid tank so I presume the pump is nearby. Now I know about the pump issue on the first gen Minis and otherwise the car is perfect and you have full powersteering at all times, you just get a knock/thud on full lock which wasn't there before.

Anyone with any experience can tell me what to tell her to look out for? I checked the fluid level and its fine. Could it be bearings? Or the pump on the way out....but I thought this whined more so than what is happening on the mother's car.
