hi, i'm thinking of getting either a gsp or a gwp for woodcock, pheasant, duck and snipe.i have 1 springer but i would like a dog that's able to point(as i hunt bogs and open area sometimes) as well as being able hunt cover and retrieve. i've noticed that there are a lot more gsp around than gwp and i was wondering is that because they're the all-round better worker. i would have thought that the gwp would be better for hunting cover though but i don't know about pointing/ranging ability.
    thanks

I am sure other lads here will know better them me as I am on my first one, but I got a GSP because of the short hair as he is a house dog as well as a hunting dog and will dry quicker after a swim etc. I live close to the river (2 minutes from house) and this was a big factor in going for the GSP. But I am sure some serious dog owners will come along shortly and give you their side of the story

The gwp are a fantastic all rounder, trained right and they'll track deer! Had one recently who was an extraordinary dog, the only reason I'm not trying to get another is there a pricey dog from certain breeders, and I've all ready been offered to other springer pups, so just feel as do my hands are full, but in two or three years, I'll go for another!
