Sky viewing card problem

I have sky multiroom. A couple of months ago the box upstairs started giving trouble and an engineer came out to look at it. He said it needed to be replaced but he didn't have any of the hd boxes with him so he put in a 3d box instead. Since then I've been losing access to more and more channels every week on the upstairs box. It says the wrong viewing card is inserted. Is it likely to be a problem with the card or something to do with switching the boxes? Is there anything I can do to fix it myself?

No such thing as a 3D box,he simply put in the new HD multiroom box which is 3D ready.
I'd say he never paired the card with the box,all you need to do is ring Sky and pair the card to receive all the channels you're meant to get.
