    hi all

Today a warning light came on....exuast problem -engine management system warns..... or similar to this

Car running fine. switched it off and on , light went off.

Any ideas? I know it will be retained in ECU as to what caused problem.

Anyone know what is the usual problem to cause this warning.

    no previous problems....recently serviced,,160k

What year is the Octavia? Could be a number of things, if it's a modern diesel could be the dpf blocked up from too much city driving.

    many thanks for reply.

its an 06. very little mileage being done over last year or two , wife uses it for collecting kids , running to shops etc , wouldnt really be stuck in city traffic. I am hoping that its not too serious!! in the times that are in it

Octavia 1.9 TDi would not have a DPF fitted. The only way to know is to have a garage with diagnostic equipment examin the fault codes which are stored by the car's ECU.

happened to mine it is an orange symbol that looks like a rectangle with smaller lines at either side. I was told the egv valve needed replacing. I never did, sold it like that. mine was 06 octavia too

As above, the EGR valves give a bit of trouble on them. Around €100 from the dealer for a new one.

it was mainly on, would go away the odd time, garage said it no big deal but....obvs it was my decision to chance it. I drove it for another 4/5months then traded it in;)
