    Friday afternoon time.

Got an electronic aldi scales a while back and weighed my bikes using it. Always wondered how heavy there really were:

Planet X SL Pro Carbon Size XL 7.9KG
Planet X Carbon TT Bike, Size L 8.7KG
Lapierre Technic Mountain Bike, Size L 13.5KG

How heavy are your bikes ? Include pedals (too much hassle to take off) and wheels but take off any saddle bags. I removed water cages on mine as well.

Weighed my Felt F1 (54 cm frame) at some stage and I think it was 7.2kg with bottle cages. The frame is very light because some of the components are far from high-end.

My bike's a pretty heavy tourer, fitted with mudguards and pannier rack and handlebar bag and what have you, but because it's a tourer and fully loaded on a regular basis, weight don't bother me none a tall.

It would be cool to jump on a carbon racer someday tho just to see how fast I go compared to being fully loaded down...

    Lapierre RCR 900 2009 -- 11.1 kg*
Bakfiets Cargo Bike Long -- 35 to 44 kg**

    * Plus carrier, mudguards, secondary lock on the bike and what ever is in the pannier which is usually at least the primary lock.

** I don't know how correct this weight is. The manufacture does not seem to list a weight, but it's listed online as between 35 to 44 kg. Plus sometimes the weight of the rain/wind cover, the young lad, and shopping etc. It's advertised to be able to carry 80kg in the box, 25kg on the rear carrier and the rider, but it apparently can carry around 125kg before steering problems kick in.

Not sure of the true weight or why the two distributors found online vary. Can't think of any way to find out besides emailing the makers... But I had tried both before buying and mine would be a good deal heavier.

It's not just the large wooden open box, but everything from the size of the box to things like the large and very sturdy rear rack, and likely the differences in frames too.

When choosing, the wind/rain "tent" cover for the young lad was one of the main things that swong it for me, although the Bullett was tempting. I'm sure going a few places the odd time up larger hills I'll wish I'd picked differently, but really happy with what I have. Mine is no way as fast but it can be faster than it looks, and speed is not that much of a priority day-to-day (and you hit red traffic lights so much in the city centre it matters even less).

My Look 586 weighs in at 6.34Kg, inc pedals, bottle cages and power meter. It's an XS small frame which helps to keep the weight down compared to larger frame sizes :D

The Giant Reign X1 all-mountain bike is ~17kg.
I haven't yet weighed the no-name singlespeed I picked up today for a commuter bike , nor have I yet weighed the upgraded Madone 4.5, though I'm expecting ~7kg for the Trek and ~13kg for the SS.
