Guys can you recomend a quiet case that will also accomodate this sound card http://www.behardware.com/articles/586-1/creative-labs-x-fi.html either front or back mounting is ok, I just need access to the two optical audio to connect from from another unit. Its a non gaming build so does not need lots of fans.

    Thanks in advance

Depends on your budget. Fractal Design Define R3 is a very good quiet case for 90 euro.

Thanks but would that take the sound card input on the back of the unit ? The optical goes into the unit with the volume control in the pic I linked to

Its a standard card, any case with a full-size expansion slot will take it. And the front unit goes in a 5.25" optical bay.

So Fractal R3 would be fine. I find it a very quiet case.

I don't think it would. The door on the case might not close all the way with the knobs of the front unit.

Spot on, never even occurred to me.

Although I think with the R3 you can slide a 5.25" unit further back and screw it in using one of the long slider holes. But that would look crap from the front.

    That was my concern.

Thanks for the input. I would need to have the optical leads connected too so don't think the fractal is a runner.

The R3 does a great job of keeping quiet because of the sound-proofing material. You can always buy it for any case as well carefully choosing quiet fans. It's not particularly cheap, although it's probably made worse by the poor euro to sterling exchange rates lately.
