Hopefully it won't be abolished, but could this Value For Money review be used as the final push for full integration with the PDF? Just reducing the strength and the number of brigades to mirror the changes to the PDF would seem like a wasted opportunity to reform the RDF.

Btw any chance the topic title could be changed to something like 'Minister Statement on RDF Review'?

from febuary 2010 until september 2012 for the vfm is nearly 3 years!

jesus if it was any other country they would get the sack if it took half that time. how are people supposed to take these recomendations seriously.

Like all the reports in this country they are null and void or no longer applicable by the time they come out. Save money ditch the reports or instead of civil servants doing the reports get in private companies to do them. A lot more effecient as a private company has to make money at the end of the day.

Reading between the lines. It'll be gone or mostly gone soon. Phased out and stood down. The most optimistic possibility is that if any units remain they will be specialised and concentrated in urban areas probably integrated into the PDF.

Difficult to see any other possibility in the context of the current reform of the PDF.

Sub Unit sized RDF Units fully integrated into their parent PDF Units to bring them fully upto strength and put them to use.

    Please, please, please.

That really is the best solution for both sides, isn't it?

Agreed. Full integration or else re-roling of troops into amalgamated units. Not going to go into details here obviously, but most units cannot continue on as at present for much longer. It's become very desperate.

I know. I don't see any tools to fix the title.

No, the private companies quote for expenses & profit margin. And then as soon as they win the contract start adding in 'hidden' fees to greatly increase the mark-up!

The reason this has taken so long is political foot-dragging. A report done by private contractors would be as likely to be binned or put on the long finger by the politicians paying the bills.

    Yes.

So naturally, they won't do that.

After reading that statement I don't know what will happen with the reserve but I guess it only makes sense to mirror the PDF and thus cut it. I wouldn't be surprised to see the RDF in the bin in a few years but personally I would keep it.

Not only keep it but I would follow suit with other western armies and deploy reserves overseas and give it the same equipment and training.
