    Hi All,

Thinking of upgrading my car, currently drive a 09 diesel focus (hatchback) , probably going to go for a '12 unless i see a very good, low mileage '11. Anyway I'd be looking to go for something around the same size, I do a fair bit of driving due to commute to work (not city/town driving) so would be looking for something with decent handling, power, comfort, realiability and of course the all important fuel efficiency, just looking for opinions on what you think would suit best (Budget of about €25k)

    Thanks

    Betsie

Check out the Hyundai i40 saloon. Close to €25K cash will get you the top model loaded with kit, a good step up from the Ford. Drove one recently and was very impressed.

On handling, power, reliability and efficiency, there's nothing at all wrong with your 09 Focus.

The only place I can see you getting any improvement is in interior quality/comfort, but 25K won't stretch to a new well kitted out V50 or Golf highline, I'd want 30+.

    Here's a '11 V50, and a Golf.

unfortunately the reliablility on my Focus not as good as it could be, having a few problems (apparently quite common for the 1.6d model) probably wouldnt be considering the change as much otherwise as it is a lovely car.

Well, forget the Volvo, then, same motor. Also in Peugeot, Citroen and Mini 1.6 diesels.

Nissan Quashqai is one of the best of these that I have driven. Love the high seat and doesn't have the rough feel of most of those jeeps ;) Economy is pretty good too with the 1.5 diesel engine and tax is also low

    1) It has a HDi engine, just like the one giving Betsie grief in her Focus

    2) It's a French car with complicated electrics

    3) it's €37K, not 25

    4) It looks like a capybara on a skateboard

I'd get another Focus. Generally they are a very reliable car and I reckon they are great value for money. You will probably do ok on a trade in from a Ford dealer.

Stick your own up on donedeal otherwise.

New mazda cx-5 appears to have gotten good reviews, they start around 25k & seem to pretty decent level standard kit

Alfa Gulietta or new Civic would be my two choices for that price range.
