FedEx woes

I'm wondering has anyone else had a similar problem with FedEx.

Recently got an item delivered from the us. Total came to 45USD including free shipping. Invoice arrives from FedEx and looks high for the amount paid so I contact them to be told that there is an "estimated" shipping cost added of 60USD.

I told them the total price paid was 45USD as per the declaration on the package but they say that the shipper would have paid them a fee regardless for postage and that they have estimated this and added it to the bill.

Surely something isn't right here, in effect FedEx appear to just be pulling numbers out of nowhere as estimates and billing you additional money for it despite what you originally paid being inclusive of free shipping.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Forward them a copy of the invoice and ask them to correct the bill.

I've done this earlier on but they appear adamant that the bill is correct and that the estimated shipping cost stands, even though the PayPal receipt shows $0 for shipping.

I'm after popping an email off to revenue to see what they have to say on it.

unfortuanatly makes no difference. if the shipper has not stated the shipping charges on the invoices customs will assume it has not been included and will estimate their own shipping charges.

They state the charge as 0 on the invoice. Asides from that I've had at least 50 packages via customs over the last number of years and checking back on invoices and customs paid I was never before told additional was being charged for shipping even where it was marked as 0 so I doubt it was something that was neglected on revenues part.

I've had problems with them too. Explained the issue over the phone and he eventually saw my point. Passed me onto his boss who gave me an email address and told me to put it in writing and give them the invoice number and that would be it sorted.

Got an email from them weeks later saying that I still owe them money. Emailed back reiterating the reason why I don't (tax related) and they are back to square one again.

They seem so disorganised for such a large company. Their customer agents don't know anything about tax/import duty and their experts take weeks to reply.

I'm still at loggerheads with them at the minute, does anyone have a link to a revenue information email address that could clear this up. I found an address for imports on revenue.ie and maled them to which I got a one line reply saying to contact fedex:confused:

Revenue won't get involved as it's between you and FedEx. Print your invoice and send it in a letter to FedEx, together with a copy of their bill to you. Tell them to adjust it for the actual values, and not estimates.

Just an update on this, Fedex still wont budge and are claiming that its customs who are setting this estimated shipping charge and not them. I've done as above and their response is the same so I need clarification from revenue/customs as to who is actually right here.
