Saw in the Liffey Champion that Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini has confirmed Leixlip got the contract and will begin production of a new chip in 2014, in the Investor Meeting on 10th May 2012.

From that, this article sounds nice.

Which, if page ten is anything to go by, 14nm chips will be built there.

    =-=

Short term; builders for the new Fab (can't see them retrofitting an existing Fab).
Long term; workers in the new Fab.

Workers on assignment will return to work in a retro-fitted fab.
Workers here will be selected/not selected to join them.

Another article posted on a thread here:

    As for 14nm in Ireland...maybe...;)

And what happens to the workers not selected to join them?

I would only assume that more people would be needed as this new 14nm project starts?

It's not that bad.. I did quite a stretch and found it very interesting..

Glad to hear things are looking good into the future for those still there..

I'd actually wonder if Intel will take on people who've they've paid redundancy to in the past? Hope they do.
