I doubt it would be a rules issue, more so that the team selector would make the decision to find a sub for one person or replace both players with the two subs.

Edit* So long as the combined handicaps are not less than 27

If it is anything like the Jimmy Bruin then I would't think so. 90% certain that's the case but always best to check with the team captain.

As far as I'm aware the simple answer is no. e.g. HC12 & HC15 are partners for match on Sat. HC12 can't play on Sunday. Therefore HC15 can be matched with a new partner as long as the new partner has not played lower than 12 the previous year and has returned 4 qualifying cards

But if an injury was to occur during the round, I think both players are swapped.

thanks for your reply. I'm new to this so I probably didn't give enough info.
It does say in the rules that if a player gets ill you replace that pair with your back up pair. It's not clear if the player who wasn't ill can play the next day with a new partner

That rule is certainly a little vague. It says you "may" replace a pair but doesn't mention substituting only one player
A team Captain may nominate two pairs as reserves.
    8. Ref General Rule 14b, alternatively, a nominated reserve pair may be placed in the same position in the team as that occupied by the pair, one of whom has taken ill or has been withdrawn.

That only applies after the team sheets have been handed in, which is half an hour before the start of the match.

    Hi,
As far as i know there is nothing stopping you changing your whole team from the first day to the second day and the same from semi-final to final.

Its less than since everyone plays off scratch. They dont care how bad you are, only how good you are :D

I think you can put out a 32 pairing if you like. They would want to be really bandits though :D

cheers for clarification, was looking at the sheet in my club there tuesday evening and there wasn't a lot of names on it. All were between 11 - 16.

No point in me putting my name on it so!!:(

It's not less. Otherwise you could have scratch golfers on the team. So the lowest handicap pair would normally be a 13 + 14. You could not have, for example, a 13 + 13 because it would be less than 27.

Also, you can not have one of the pair lower than a 12 handicap (all of these handicaps are from the previous year).

so you are saying i could put my name down for it so? (am off 23:o) Doubt I'd ever get picked but am here if needed.

Yes you could but you wont be selected! :D You also have to have played in at least 4 competitions last year. The team selectors will try get the combined total as close as possible to 27. So if a 23 handicap was one, the other would have to be at least 12 - making the total 35. So..... not gonna happen!

Reading back over my post, I came across as condescending and didn't mean to be. It's definitely something to aim for next year. Play as much as you can this summer and try get your handicap down to sub 18. Once that happens, you just need to be returning consistent good scores at the start of the 2013 season and you should certainly get a call up.

I'm playing in it this year for the first time after playing golf for years - you could probably replace me and do better!:o

no worries at all, I didn't take it up that way at all.
I have never got into anything other then club singles or society golf but want to change that this year so am trying to find out what I am eligible to play in. As for the handicap......am working hard on that!!

Well how did everyone get on with the Pierce Purcell this weekend.

Have to say I love the format in Leinster, I seem to play my best golf when I'm playing for a team.

Lets just say the wind played a big part in Roundwood yesterday.
I was playing for Arklow, but we finished out of the top 4 and i didnt hear how it finished.

you have to love Glenmalure.. have about 50 members and continue to win regional qualifiers... whats that 3 in 5 years?

guy who played off 3 a few years ago now playing Pierce Purcell with an adjusted handicap after not playing for a few years:eek:. Numerous other guys who are all very well handicapped ;)....when will the GUI start stamping this type of rubbish out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Mr. Larson

Who do they think that impresses? It's a widely known fact that this punter played off 3, took a break to concentrate on hurling and came back with a "revised" handicap for the Pierce Purcell. Also know an ex-member who scored 44pts and didn't get cut because there was a team thing coming up. Was given some cock and bull story about CSS being really high. How can the GUI not know about this?

I heard that exact story after we finished our round on Saturday. That's such a load of bo**ix. They shouldn't be allowed to play in any GUI events.

I didn't contact the GUI because it didn't really happen. I just made it up.

Its the GUI's own rules that if a players handicap lapses from non-play/non membership that three cardss need to be submitted... so if player and club calculate a 14 handicap then what can GUI do....

In general that club is always at it...... the GUI locally are fully aware but turn a blind eye........ every player on their teams is playiong off the wrong mark......

thats why these mid handicap competitions, Star Team event etc are totally open for manipulation.......

BTW the GUI have been contacted about the matter (again)
