I'm a long time player (acoustic & electric) and I was in a local music store today and just browsing his current crop of budget acoustic guitars.
I asked the chap to recommend me an acoustic from his range of stuff.
He said he had a particular attachment to the Vintage electro-acoustics with Fishman pickup and tone controls.

I tried it out, 299Euro (20Euro approx discount for month of May).
I was very impressed with it, slightly high action but nice tone and very good intonation down the fretboard.
He got me to plug it up also to listen to it so as to see it amplified.

He had a 100w Marshall solid state combo (with delay/chorus/phase/flange/reverb/gain,etc).

I own a battered Ovation which is nigh on 20+ years old or more and which has nice tone but has seen better days.
This guitar was no Ovation but I was very impressed with the guitar for that very affordable price point.

Anyone else vouch for those Vintage guitars ?
Also, ... any recommendation on acoustic/electric amplification.
The Marshall he let me try out was an electric amp but he said the acoustic ones aren't that different on dynamic range.
    He also does Line6 stuff.
My gut feeling is Marshall and Line6 aren't greatly matched to amplifying acoustics.

    I beg to differ!

I have a AS50R acoustic amp and it's gorgeous. I bought it after playing through a friend's in church for 6 months. he moved away so I bought an identical amp as a replacement.

    superb little thing it is......

anyway, Vintage guitars aint too shabby. everyone has their fav. feel etc, but if it floats your boat, then it has to be a good one, right?

This kind of thing crops up a lot here... The best advice I can give with budget acoustics is to just shop around. Try everything. There tends to be a lot of variance from one guitar to the next - even if they are supposed to be the exact same model. Once it feels comfortable to you and sounds good to you, go for it if you're happy with the price.

I don't know a huge amount about acoustic guitar amplifiers but do make sure you buy one made for acoustics, not electrics.
