    Hi there

I have a friend who has been awarded a 50% grant, they applied a few weeks ago due to a change in family income and circumstances and have been told they are getting 50% grant, does this cover their fees also or is this just the €1515 and the fees must be covered by them seperately? I have got a grant before but not at this level so I am unsure what this will cover. Anyone that can shed some light on this? I have checked some sites for answers but have came out none the wiser!

Yes they pay the student contribution fee

    See page 35 of this

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

from reading this I gathered that the fees are covered aswell as revieving the 50%? Am i right here or when you say 'they pay' do you mean the person getting the grant or the vec. sorry just a little confused!!

The department of Education covers the fees and pays the college via the VEC

yes i understand that if the vec are covering the fees that they will pay the college, but what i mean is does the 50% cover the fees and then also give the €1515 to the student or does the €1515 count as the money that is going to cover the fees!

Your friend gets all of their fees payed and ~(?)€1515 if they receive the non-adjacent rate. Do they live more than 45 km away from the college?

    Hi there

Back again, my friend recieved his grant letter to say he is getting the ajacent rate of €600 euro even though his house is 46.8km away from the college, they told him that because he crosses over to culloville to get to dundalk that they change from kms to miles and so this makes the lenght less than 45 kms? is this right? can they do this? is 45km not jsut 45km meaning that weather or not its miles in a certain place his house is still more than 45kms away from the college he attends! Very annoying!!
