    Hi,

I'll finish my masters in around Xmas of this year with exams in february 2013. When do you think is the best time to start looking for work?

I.e Should I start contacting companies now or wait until in around September?

I've seen a good few graduate opportunities and am finding it hard to not apply straight away, but not sure if there's any point if I'm not available to work for another 7 months or so.

Also if the jobs are abroad (US/Canada/Aus) should I start contacting companies sooner?

    Thanks

Start applying now, you can always turn down an offer if it doesn't suit or they won't accommodate your finishing date. Plus getting some interview practice in is a good idea.

I don't think there's any harm in spreading your name around and letting people know you're going to be available, especially if you're planning on heading outside Ireland. It will also give you a good idea of what's out there. However, your primary focus should be your Masters - don't get too distracted.

Large companies will all be hiring around now for a September/October graduate intake and smaller companies are unlikely to commit to hiring you a year from now.

The deadline for applications for many large companies has likely already passed. Unfotunately, you'll be approaching your exams when the time comes to start applying for the 2013 intake. Assuming the applications haven't closed I would advise getting answers together for all the stupid questions you'll have to answer and get your CV and cover letters up to scratch. That way, it won't be much hassle to update and apply when the time comes.

One thing I noticed is that most large companies do not accept applications from candidates who have already applied and been rejected. So don't do a load of half-assed applications now that might come back to bite you!
