Hey all, I'll be getting the Cork-Dublin train Saturday week, it'll be my first time on this train service in ~7 years so I was wondering - is there ample amount of power points available on the train? Or do you need to sit in a particular carriage/etc?

I'll be travelling at super early o'clock if that matters... (6:15)

On most Cork trains (and by the looks of this one too), there is no power at most seats.

There is power at the seats in first class. Also there is one seat at the top of each carriage that has power (really supposed to be for the cleaners).

There is one socket behind the last row of seats next to the luggage racks and another at the other end opposite the door to the toilet.

If it is one of the newer 22000 trains there will be sockets at every seat but they may not work due to a fault with the sockets.

Are there power points at every seat on the new, all singing, all dancing Dublin/Cork inter-city bus services, or do you have to plug in at Urlingford when everybody goes to relieve themselves? :D

No hoping about it. The train will be a Mark 4 set. Power points will be at every seat in first class (supplement payable) or behind seats 5 and 6 in standard class.

My advice? Go to the rear most coach of the train (the quiet coach) - its usually the least populated of the lot, and grab seat 5 or 6. I can't imagine it will be particularly busy at 0615 on a Saturday morning.

Just booked tickets now, selected seat E5 (the back window seat in last carriage) for both trips. Looking forward to the electricity :)

I've heard IR are planning to retro fit plug sockets for all Dublin to Cork trains soon

Is that possible without completely refurbishing the mark4 carriages?

might be done at the same time as the "deep cleaning" work that someone posted on here a few weeks back.

Assuming the underlying power systems can cope (which they really should be able to), definitely yes.

Taking internal siding off and attaching a power socket to each table/seat-side isn't anywhere NEAR what's done at an overhaul.

I would be amazed if the power distribution was different in the standard class cars than the first class.
