Pension Related Deduction - Contract worker

    Hi,

Just a quick question. I was on a short term contract in the civil service and payed the pension-related deduction like everybody else, but I assumed as I wasn't actually going to get a pension that I'd get it back. I mentioned it on leaving and nobody suggested I was wrong. It's been nearly a year and I haven't seen any money, so, just wondering was my assumption correct before I go chasing it down.

    Thanks

Yes, I believe your assumption was correct.

You really should have chased it before the end of the financial year .... good luck.

You still are entitled to refund of PRD

A letter to salaries section of the department should sort that out for you. You will be asked to complete a form stating that you have no intention of rejoining the civil or public service or any job paid from public funds in the next two years

Yes you are entitled to a refund of your PRD, provided you have less than 2 years service, are not eligible to be a member of pension scheme and will not benefit from a pension. Unfortunately, some public service employers decided to deduct the PRD but then to leave it up to individual employees to claim a rebate. I'm sure there must be lots of people in the same situation who do not realise that they are entitled to claim PRD back!!
