    Any thoughts on this car?

Any major problems with that particular model?
    Are they expensive to maintain?
    Anything to be wary about?
    Are they economical?

Had a few Vectras and have always had a soft spot for them. The 120 engine is more reliable than the 150 version but nowhere near as fun. All Vectras suffer from the usual suspension issues i.e tie-rods and bushings. They are particularly hard on bushings. They are an easy cheap fix so nothing to worry about. The Dual Mass Flywheel is a weak spot. Also the timing belt needs changing every 60k or 4 years to be on the safe side.
All in all a very well built car and good value at the moment

    Great, thanks man.

Looking at a very nice 05 for what seems like a good price (3750 euro, would be hoping to get it closer to 3300 or so, it's from a dealer). Only problem I see with the ad is there's no mention of a service history and the car has 130k miles on it.
I reckon it's worth a look all the same.

One more question: Don't really know any mechanic I could ask to inspect the car if I go that far with it. Are there any good independent vehicle instruction services that do call outs?

Would be very wary of the lack of service history. Wouldn't be expecting full Opel service history at that age/budget but would expect something especially regarding the timing belt changes. Theres plenty of decent motors in that price category so wouldn't rush into anything

Do you have a link to the car ad?

The AA do call out inspections but they are quite expensive. If you post your location someone on here might be able to recommend an indie in the area to have a look

My thoughts exactly. Here's a link to the ad:

It's out in Kylemore, will give them a ring shortly and ask about any service work and documents.

Hmmm. Thats a base spec Vectra. You would get a much better spec for the same money. Those wheels are awful and don't suit the car at all. Thats just my opinion but it wouldn't be for me at all

I'm just looking for something reliable, economic, and easy to maintain, not too interested in best spec.

It was the tires that caught my attention in the first place, I think they're b-e-a-utiful :P
