Got to head into town tomorrow and want to take the bike. Can I walk it onto a train?

Off peak you can take the bike free. On peak it's subject to the staff allowing it.

Only on commuter routes. Intercity routes are subject to a charge for the bike. There was a thread on it a few weeks back, have a search. (im on the mobile, linking is a pain)

DART = free off peak, at the discretion off staff at on peak times wether you are allowed on.

Intercity = 12euro approx each way off the top of my head

You can take a bike on the DART and on commuter services for free all the time, except:
    • between 7 am and 10 am, Monday to Friday; and
    • between 3:30 pm and 7 pm, Monday to Friday (it was 4 pm to 7 pm when first introduced- not sure when it was changed).
Although this is at the discretion of the staff. During the peak hours mentioned above it is not permitted at all, no staff discretion.

InterCity is €6 each way and must be booked.

In short, unless you're taking InterCity, you won't be able to take the bike at 5 pm today.
