There's probably some discussion about this on the Soccer Forum, but seeing as most people can't post there, thought I'd drop it in here.

Thought it was a very interesting first episode. It was as much a history lesson as a sports documentary, but it painted a very interesting picture about the birth and growth of the game in Ireland and exposed the early stages of sectarianism in sport. Looking forward to the juicy stuff about our tragically unlucky streak in the 70's/80's, and the glory days of the 90's.

Hats off to Daragh Moloney too, who did a great job presenting it.

    Good show tonight.

I didn't know anything about the history of the Ulster and Dublin Soccer factions, I always thought the FAI and IFA split occurred when the treaty was signed.

It deserved to be on RTE1, a lot of people might have missed it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Yes crazy. RTE1 were showing Shutter Island, then at 9pm RTE2 was showing an episode of Only Fools And Horses, prime time viewing and they show a tv show from 25 years ago. They are then at 12.05 showing a first Irish run of a show called The Glades, seems to have got decent enough reviews, whoever is doing the scheduling should be cleared out, it's a joke

I thought it was really good, already looking forward to the rest of the series.
Got a little lump in my throat when they told the story of the first full international in Turin when the Irish lads had to bring the sheet music for Amhrán na bhFiann and their own tri-colour.

Part 2 is on tonight on RTE2 at 10.25
Darragh Maloney explores events in Irish football between 1930 and 1980, when the frustrations of failing to qualify for a major tournament were eased by a booming domestic league that entered what some regard as a golden era
