Advice on what to get...

I have been researching online for weeks trying to decide on what car, but I can't seem to find one that ticks all the boxes:

-I have a 50 mile round-trip daily commute to work

-I have dogs which have destroyed my back seat so need a big boot in a SUV/estate style that I can put them in.

    - I look after my niece and nephew regularly so need back seat for them.

    - I need to do some towing now and again but nothing too heavy (small boat and outboard engine, some sheep in a trailer occasionally).

-I frequently drive on non-tarmac roads with large potholes and ruts, maybe not necessarily requiring 4WD but could do with higher clearance than average car.

    - I have a budget of around €15k, might just about stretch it to €17k.

So basically I need something that is light enough on the juice for the mileage I do but will also be suitable for the other jobs. (If money wasn't an issue I would just get a landrover or similar but can't afford anything too thirsty.) I know I'm dreaming but would apprciate any advice.

    Ford Kuga?

    I like the Kuga alright.
But not many around in my price range without travelling a fair distance.
Also not sure if boot is quite big enough for me.
I was all set on the Santa Fe but the reports on this forum of the mechanical issues has scared me off them.

Agree completely, but fits the op's needs and the kuga is quite a bit more expensive as is the cashcow.

    Another thought, subaru forester.

Edit: that octavia scout looks like the owner wanted a volvo but couldnt afford it :)

    Rav 4 or a tiguan.

Just been checking out those suggestions on carzone.
Scout is a nice looking car and seems perfect but only found two - both above my price and on other side of country.
Yeti I would have to cover my eyes as I walked up to it, but yes it does meet my needs (but just couldn't bring myself to walk out to that every morning).
Forrester not as bad looking and ticks boxes but again not a big selection at my price or in a medium size diesel.
I should mention that I am trading-in an Audi A4 2008 1.9TDI. Have it for 3 years and been spoilt by it, nice looking and lovely to drive, but just not practical anymore as my lifestyle has changed since I bought it. Would like to stay around the same year.

    I know, I'm a fussy b****rd.:)

How about one of those horrible audi allroad yokes:)
But i think they only came in 2.5 quattro.

Think you meant "lovely" there and typed horrible instead by accident ;).

But unfortunately I cant afford something that thirsty no matter how nice it looks!

Interesting. Over the years have heard many bad things about Citroen once they clock some mileage up, but maybe they have improved.

By the way I mean really **** roads, ones where you have to keep the middle of the car away from the centre of the track or you'll rip the bottom out of it.

Then its c5(i used to drive like a maniac on roads i wont go down in my alfa)
Or a jeep, suzuki grand vitara maybe, they came in 2.0 iirc ( not great though imo)
Nissan xtrail might fit the bill nicely, it also comes in 2.0l but only the 2wd version 4wd is 2.2

    Happy hunting!

Edit Bazz got in there before me!

God that is a nice looking machine!
Engine size in perfect, price not bad, mileage ok.

It would have to be in the farthest county away from me of course! But still...

There's quite a few of these around so you shouldn't find it too hard to find one a bit closer.

Happy shopping whatever you get :D

Engine size way out of my financial league in terms of both mpg and tax.
