Anyone who needs assistance via a wheelchair lift etc etc would all enter by the right side, so the number is higher than you'd think. Usually 1 or 2 pax per flight in my experience

I did in Zurich once when flying with Aer Lingus...I remember remarking at how unusual it was.

Ditto, on a BA BAC 111 in Cork sometime in the mid 70's, and a Nationwide 727 livingstone Zambia.

    Well , I used to fly a PA 28 , so yes.

I also boarded an LI 2 ( Russian build DC3 ) which was stuck in a field somewhere which slips my mind but it was eastern Europe . We were on a spotting trip back in 1983-4 in Eastern Europe ( yes it was still communist then )

The LI 2 was the Russian build DC3

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisunov_Li-2

We visited a museum I think in Hungary , and the guide basically wanted to show us their storage area which had an LI 2 in it .

    Other than that , no.

As P Clancy said the PA28 would have been one and in a former life everything from B737/757/A320 etc from the right.

No, but i disembarked on the right on EI-ORD once due to high winds at DUB and the captain/crew refusing to open the 'normal' door despite some ground handling chap standing at the top of the steps banging on it & looking through the little window.
    Felt a bit surreal.

Why is everything boarded from the left?

I think it's a hangover from ships , where you always board from the port side

Of course I am totally open to correction .

The layout at that exit has a galley to starboard and the ground crew are trying to service it. The exit to port is wider than through the galley

Yes with my mother who needed special assistance.

I had it in my head that I boarded Aer Arann flights from Galway from the right but on investigation it was from the left:

Boarding is on the left side of the aircraft as all other services for the Aircraft turnaround are on the right hand side in most cases IE Cargo doors, toilet servicing,Catering services,Re-fueling,potable water re-fill etc so as to keep the left side clear for Pax only.

That hasn't been the case for about 300 hundred years (in the main). In ye olden days, the rudder was on the right/starboard side, therefore a boat was berthed port side to so as not to crush the steering gear. This ceased to be necessary when rudders were moved to the centreline.

I boarded a Sikorsky S-61N from the right hand side if that counts? ;)

helicopters are odd , even the captain sits on the ' wrong ' side :-)

Do fixed wing captain's sit on the left? That's weird.

Yep as mentioned above, the fuel truck will park up on the right side under the wing to refuel. The baggage handlers also have to gain access to the forward and aft cargo holds on the right side. The ground power unit is parked on the right side and connected to the right side of the aircraft.

This doesn't leave too much room for passengers to board or disembark.
