Clinical Placement (nursing) TCD

    Hi Guys,

    Just wondering is there only one time during the year you can do nursing placement in TCD? Or do you get a choice? From what i've heard you can only do it after christmas, but it clashes with the christmas holidays during which I am going to be away. Obvioulsy I need to put education first :P, But I really just need to know can I do it later in the year? Like seeing as there are so many nurses do they split the class up into different times of the year? Please help me with this, Its super important! :o

    HI,

    Placements ae done at specific times during the year for each year. Only third and fourth years are usually out together. 1st & 2nd years are usually out at times when 3rd aren't out. The allocations office have set times during the year (For every year) that you must complete placements. If you miss placements for any reason, there is an option to make it up while on placement. Only interns work the Christmas holidays so you'd usually be finished around the 18th of Dec or the Friday of the week before Xmas.

    If you miss placement and don't make it up while on placement you'll be marked as incomplete for the year and will have to re-do it in the summer (Annual Leave time) If you miss more than 50% of placements you have to re-do the whole placement. At the end of the placements you'll be marked as incomplete and you usually cannot do your next placement until you've completed the one you missed.

    If you are marked as incomplete for the year and have to re-do your placement in the summer, usually they say your annual exam results will be withheld until placements are completed. This rarely happens though.
