Aspiring Guitarist from Dublin 11 Eager To Form A Band

    Hello All,

My name is Sean. I am 19 years old and I have been studying the guitar and music for the last 4 years, purely out of the love for it. I have yet to play with a proper group or perform in a live context and I have no recording experience to speak of either, so I'm very new to the music scene. I am determined to join and work with other musicians in Dublin.

My equipment at the moment is a Squier Stratocaster, Vox VT 40+ amplifier and Dunlop Crybaby Wah.

If you are interested in seeing examples of me playing, I have a YouTube channel with 4 covers and an original song written by myself and an acquaintance.
    Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/Ulveren/videos

I also have a Facebook page. It can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sean-Masterson/239419946070825

It has been made redundant over the last couple of months, so compliments or constructive criticism are both welcome.

My musical tastes is very broad, so I will to surmise my favourite musicians:

In Blues: Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Son House, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stefan Grossman and Charley Patton

Jazz: Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Julian Adderly, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Gil Scott Heron, Etta James and my guitar hero: Django Reinhardt.

Modern Classical Music: Igor Stravinsky, Arvo Part, Edgard Varese, Iannis Xenakis, Steve Reich and Charles Ives

Rock: Television, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Steely Dan, Megadeth, Radiohead, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry and Sepultura

Pop: Friendly Fires, The Beatles, The Chemical Brothers, Fun, Marina And The Diamonds, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, OutKast, and Laura Marling

I have begun to write music; mainly small melodies and chord progressions, small germs of songs essentially. I wish to progress onto classical and contemporary composition later on. I would like to collaberate with other musicians and be able to come up with ideas, refine them, and perform them.

I would like to form a band with a modern pop sound, but with inflections of Jazz, perhaps along the lines of the late Amy Winehouse, or 'Innervisions' era Stevie Wonder. To that end, I am looking for a singer, bassist, drummer and perhaps a wind or brass player. I really do not mind age or gender, but I would love to sit down with musicians who have had some live or recording experience, so I could learn from them. Preferably, I would also like them to be able to read music.

For the moment, I really want to treat this endeavour as a learning curve about how the music scene in Ireland operates. I really also want to try and pull off a good live performance. I hope to find other like- minded musicians here, and I look forward to establishing contact with you.

If you wish to contact me, here is my email address for convienience: seanm2008@live.ie

    Peace :-)

Somebody, start a band with this guy!

That's the best list of influences I've seen on this forum. Good luck with everything, if you take all that in and work hard you'll make some really great stuff. Keep it real!

Hey we're a band currently looking for a guitarist, mainly someone who can carry a strong rock lead and from the looks of that nirvana and many others you got there you may wanna check us out, we're aged 16-19, mainly two 16 year olds, 18 and 19 year old, we've got a heavy/alternative rock sound with a great synth presence as well perfect for almost hard pop rock that you may find interesting, we're already winning battles, and recording time along with photoshoots and a gig in the academy is coming up, but obviously we'd need someone of high skill on lead to help support us through that! You seem like just the guy from those vids and we're always open to contribution from any member of the band so You can bet we'd gladly take your help writing originals :) we're aspiring to get our music to the best it can be and hopefully succeed with it, we'd love to hear from ya via PM, sadly I can only offer you this poor quality home recording of one of our originals

Distance could be an issue, we're currently practicing regularly in maynooth, just outside Dublin county, but we gig mostly in Dublin, hopefully if you're interested something can be sorted out

Thanks for reading man, best of luck either way, you've got some great influences there!

    Hi again,
A revision is needed for this thread. I have received some replies, and while I am very grateful that many different people want to play with me, I feel that I must be specific about certain things:

Firstly, I am based in Finglas. I am only looking for musicians from the Northside of Dublin City i.e. Finglas, Whitehall, Ballymun, Glasnevin, Marino, Santry, the City Centre, Cabra and Artane. You must be between 18 - 24.

Hey man, John here. You seriously up for it? I've been teaching for the past year and studying it in college, if you want to go ahead then I'm all for it. Sure last time was a bit casual but I've nothing but time on my hands with it being summer etc., so if you're up for it then text me or something and hopefully we'll work something out.
