    Hi,

I just move in a new apartment and there is a upc box on the wall.

As i have an old tv, i wonder if i could receive some free channels by connecting a cable on the upc box?I have tried but it looks like the tv cable has to screwed on the upc box.
the old tenant has a ntl box like the one 6 years ago that allows to have some free channels without subscription but it took it with him.
Is there any to receive the free channels with upc without contract?

    thank you

There are ZERO legal free channels on UPC.

If you connect to their cable you are morally and legally obliged to pay them. Even if only watching unencrypted channels free elsewhere.

There are no "free" channels with UPC. If you have their internet service then you can probably pick up the 18 or so analogue channels by plugging the TV directly into the wall box and seeing what you can tune in. However you technically are paying for this with the extra you pay for having internet without the TV service.

    F connector - http://www.tvtrade.ie/tv-connectors.html

A contract is always required to receive services from UPC. That being said the UPC analogue channels may be available at that point if the UPC cable wasn't disconnected from the flat when the previous subscriber left.

A fly lead (male co-ax to F plug) from the TV to the UPC wall box will be required to check.

6 years ago, we has a ntl contract.then we cancel ntl but they left the box at home.We could still have a few channels after that(around 12 i think) much less than before as we didn't have any subscription but we were still able to receive rte,utv,..

UPC Cable is a pay TV service, so nothing's available for free.

18 analogue (PAL) channel are carried, unencrypted, on all of their cable networks except in Cork City which is digital-only. (The old Cork Multichannel analogue service carried 33 encrypted channels, so when it was shut down it was just replaced directly with digital cable as there was no legacy analogue unencrypted service in Cork)

It seems you can no longer order UPC's analogue TV service, it's only available as a legacy service, but it's available as long as you have an active TV or broadband / phone setup, or if you have a legacy analogue-only TV account.

Other TV services carried are encrypted DVB-C digital cable and require a UPC box and active subscription.

Broadband and phone services are carried over the same coaxial cable and require a UPC supplied modem and active subscription to use them.

Will those 18 analogue channels be gone once the analogue TV service is switched off on October 24th 2012?

I get UPC's 18 channels piped in through the wall and pay for internet and phone. Will I have to upgrade to their box now?
