Campagnolo Triple - Now available

    From today, it no longer matters if the road ahead of you is a steep incline or fast, flat and level.

    With the wide range of ratios offered by the most complete, highest performance triple drivetrain on the market, you're well prepared for any situation.

    But, in keeping with its philosophy and history, Campagnolo has gone even further, and created the triple crankset with the best "U" and "Q" factors in its class. This outstanding result offers tangible benefits to the rider: derailing speed and precision of a par with double drivetrains, and perfect hip-knee-foot alignment for maximum pedalling efficiency and maximum joint protection.

    Campagnolo has also developed the first ultra-light hollow aluminium cranks. The front derailleur has been completely redesigned, while the rear derailleur - which is now also available with a long rocker - is the same as the component used with the standard 10 and 11 speed version.

    3 sets are available:
    - Athena 11-speed, in Deep Black and Bright Silver versions
    - Centaur 10-speed, in Deep Black and Black&Red versions

    They always had triples though? Isn't this just a revamp?

    I don't recall any triple on the more high-end groupsets, I think they had a couple of Xenon/Mirage with a triple but I am not so sure either.

    They did it differently by having a separate triple line, called Comp. There were two up to a couple of years ago. I think the other was called Race or something like that.

    Having said that, I'm not sure what the deal was regarding long cage deraileurs.

    I'm not sure how well these new ones will sell. You can get 34/29 with a compact and the newer cassettes and mechs. There aren't many people who'd have call for a 30/29.

    I've a Xenon triple on my bike, and a friend has mirage triple on his. Just replaced the old Xenon FD with a new Comp triple FD marked as 10 speed, so I'm guessing Campag have had triple groups available all the time. Gearing seems a bit different, mine is 53/42/30, whereas the new ones are 52/39/30 or 50/39/30 with cassette options up to 12/30.

    It's an old xenon 9 speed RD with long cage mech. I've 11/23 and 13/28 cassettes both which seem fine, but the FD was fiddly as bedamned to set up.

    I thought I understood Q-factor but U-factor was new to me. I understood Q-factor was distance between cranks, which is obviously ambiguous when you think about it since crank arms are not always (ever?) truly parallel to each other, but turns out that what I thought was Q-factor is actually U-factor. Confused yet? So was I when I tried to find out exactly what U-factor is and encountered this gibberish (to me) description from Campag:
    The "U" factor: allows the pedal to stay as parallel as possible with respect to the central axis of the cyclist; this gives the maximum efficiency of power transmission.

    Q-factor is apparently the distance between cranks at their widest point (so, where the pedals attach I guess), U-factor is distance between cranks at the BB. I think.
