Aer Lingus refund - can anyone advise please?

    Hi all,

Not sure if I'm in the correct forum, a bit stressed so forgive me!

Long story short, my grandmother was due to fly from Lyon to Dublin next week but was admitted to hospital yesterday evening and has been told that she is unfit to fly and will be for the foreseeable future.

My dad has spent hours trying to get through to Aer Lingus to see about getting a refund if possible but hasn't been able to get through at all & is losing the plot now!

Can anyone tell me what we should do now in terms of getting in contact with Aer Lingus on an alternative number so that we can query a refund partial or otherwise as the flight cost quite a bit.

TIA for your help and any advice

Unfortunately you're unlikely to get a refund. Did your grandmother have travel insurance in place at the time the flight was booked? If so she could claim under that, otherwise the airline is only under an obligation to refund the taxes and usually the "administration" costs to do so are more than the refund is worth.

I claimed a refund back from AL last week for a flight DUB - LHR.

As with LHR aint cheap to into.

tickets cost €9 but total flight was €100.

    Ended up getting €30 back.

    Rang 0818 365000

Gave ref id and name of passenger and no problem at all.

That would be a refund of the taxes etc less admin fee. The fees on the LHR flight are very high.

Worth a look for OP though, refund may be small but better than nothing for relatively little work.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pass that number on in case he has been trying a different one. Worth a try.

I'm not sure if she has travel insurance, I'll check it out too.

    Thanks again
