Thinking of playing here in June/July. Any helpful hints/pointers would be welcomed :)

Although I have not played in Bordeaux, I have played quite a lot all down the west coast of France (Seignosse being my fav.) and never had a problem. Theres loads of courses, all of a good standards and well maintained. All the clubs have english speaking staff and hire clubs etc. Prices should be midseason in june so expect to pay between 30-50 euro depending on course, day and time.

Formule-golf is a good place to start, they are a french company that promote's many of the clubs.

Myself and a friend played 4 courses around Biaritz very close to Bordeaux back in 09. Had a great time, a few small points, all the course where very busy and had to be booked in advance and as there was only 2 of us we had to play with two other random people but everyone we played with where very friendly, cost €40-€60 to play each course. At the time there was deals available if you play affiliated clubs which worked out alot cheaper but restricts your choices. The courses are nice but i found them quite short. Golf d'Arcangues was one of the better courses, would definetly hire a buggy as it has quite a few hills.
On the way home we bought alot of cheap wine and put it inside the golf bags, Not sure if you would get away with it now i think the weight restriction is 30kg if you pay to bring your bag. Enjoy!

Biaritz is two hours from Bordeaux .... its like saying Cork is very close to Dublin ..... I think you probably sampled the wine so much, the journey seemed like two minutes:D
