Linky to the reviews of the Church

To sum it up, woman leaves bad review on google about church, church has launched legal action and it suing the woman for defamation of ¢500,000.

Could this actually happen in Ireland under our blasphemy laws or defamation laws? Not just by a church but anyone giving a bad review on the internet?

Could happen - would it succeed? I doubt it.

Have you looked at the test for blasphemy under the '09 Act?

Looking at the act she's wrong on a few counts, If the church goers of that church are upset it would give ground for a blasphemy case.
She also gets herself in trouble over defamation if i'm reading it correctly, she did not have any privilege.

Would I be correct in thinking, if you write something defamatory or blasphemous on the internet about someone even if not religion related your leaving yourself wide open for a day out?

The blasphemy law is actually a bit toothless because it requires that the allegedly blasphemous statement was published with the intention of causing insult and outrage.
In other words, the court would have to prove that you were trolling and not just expressing an honestly held opinion.

If they thought that one bad review was a problem, by suing they have really opened the flood gates for bad reviews!
