Can anyone recommend a decent quality 5/6' putting mat for the house? Not looking to spend a fortune and, before the replys come in, also not looking for an offcut of carpet.

    I have this one:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Golf-portable-mini-track-putting-mat-ball-line-check-training-practice-goods-aid-/320861110555?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab4d0011b#ht_4207wt_1270

You'll have to allow a week or two for delivery as it comes from South Korea.

Edit to say I bought it from that seller and had no issues

Can I ask why carpet is not good enough?

Probably cos his wife wouldn't appreciate him cutting a 4 1/4 inch hole in it :D

In fairness I have an 8 foot matt with a hole in it and a little uphill finish. I find it great (particularly since I only have wooden floors) but the uphill finish encourages a more positive stroke.

I'm sure carpet could be fine Greebo but I've found in the past that an off-cut can struggle to stay flat and keep it's shape properly - obviously depends on the quality and weight of said carpet.

Like the look of the roll up mat Link, how do you find it?

I have one of the Izzo ones which works fine. What I like about it is that it's shaped like a kidney. I've found when putting on rectangular mats that I use the edge to line up. No straight edges on this one.

Maybe Padraig should find himself a length of carpet between three and five foot long, get rid of the biomechanics monitor, picture of Paul Hurrion, upright grip, divining rod and statue of buddha.

It's fine - good quality material and doesn't curl at the edges when you unroll it. It also says you can brush the material towards or away from you to quicken/slow down the putt but if I am honest any difference I noticed in speed was minimal.

I have the Boomerang mat following a recommendation from someone on here. Great device that returns the ball to you - no batteries required !

It comes with a mat to putt along but as others rightly say here, a piece of carpet would do just as well. The device itself is great and can be set at different angles to simulate different length putts.

A thumbs up from me on this one.
