Lads Im getting a new injector for sorento diesel 06 bosch injector. I'm not sure if it's no. 3 or 4 that's the problem. How do I find this out properly and is it a case of just out with the old and in with the new injector? Needs some advice

There is a proper kit for diagnosing failed/failing common rail injectors.

You can't really just swop common rail injectors around either as they have to be programmed/flow matched to the ecu.

    .

My brother in law had a lot of issues with blocked injectors on a sorento. The kit said which one was blocked and they changed it but the problem appeared on other injectors. This was in a Kia dealer in Kilcullen.

In the end, they got the fuel tank removed and cleaned out. There is a known fault on Kia sorentos (not sure of which years) where the inner coating on the tank comes off and blocks injectors. That was the garage saying that. I would have thought the tank is just pressed steel and uncoated ? It solved the problem long enough for him to sell it on (couple of months).

So are you saying if I know which one the problem is on and I change it then it will not work properly?

How noticeable any running issues are varies from engine type to engine type but the flow rates of new common rail injectors have to be coded into the ecu.

As mentioned above you need to get a "diesel leak back test" carried out,This measures the amount of diesel each injector has flowing back to tank.
This is really the only way in checking injectors in the engine....other than that remove them all and get them tested by a diesel specialist.

Depending on what mileage is on the injectors, but once they have covered well over a hundred k mls or you've had poor diesel/petrol by mistake at some stage then all four should be reconditioned.

ok points taken just to give you an outline of it. theres 80k miles on it running a little rough had it hooked up for the doe and they said number 4 injector had a problem. i have a reconditoned injector for it. whts my best options?

I'd say get a diesel leak back test done to confirm whether its injector 4.....if it is injector 4 then fit your replacment injector and coded it in as N-Doctor said above...:)

I wouldn't limit myself to just the leak back test, static or dynamic unless its blatantly obvious there is a leak back issue. Its possible that the injector is leaking in fuel all the time and this might not show up on a leak back test. Remove the glowplugs and plug out the injectors, then do a cylinder compression test. If a cylinder is high compression compared to the others well then you may have an issue with injector leakage.
Remove that injector and you can see for yourself, one of the glowplugs might even be wet from diesel. We found one of four injectors leaking on a HDI engine and on removal blew into the injector and fuel drop lets came out of the nozzle. That should not happen at all unless power is applied.

Is it anygood chancing a new injector in the cylinder with the problem just to see or can this cause problems?
