    Hello,

I'm away the June bank holiday in Greece and was wondering would I pick up RTE Radio on digital over there or will I have to get an internet cafe to pick this up?

    Thanks,
    David

If you can manage to get your hands on a wifi radio, you may just get RTE. I couldn't be sure about digital, but if all else fails to give a cafe a go.

Thanks for that. I have an app on the smart phone for radio on wifi so I have that as backup anyway.

From what I'm reading digital radio seems to be exclusive to Athens so the islands might be a long shot.

    Thanks anyway.

RTE digital i.e. DAB would not extend to Greece. Digital radio/DAB in Greece would be for Greek stations and apparently broadcasts are only sporadic. If it's government run they've probably switched it off by now.

Interesting that Greece has well over 1,000 stations. You might find one that relays RTE news bulletins at times of the day. If not your apps on wifi are the best option.

Might be able to pick up Radio 1 on LW252 as a last resort

    absolutely categorically not possible.

I'm in Munich and cant get a trace of it.
When driving back to Ireland I at no stage could receive it, not even in Britanny which is "just" across the water (BBC 5 live and sportstalk were faintly available first on the german/ france border and at night and very listenable in Britanny/ Normandy)

anyhow, internet is your only man. tune in app for your mobile device or just goto the rte website if youre on a normal computer.

Yeah almost 100% sure you can't get RTE on any digital radio outside Ireland

Ah well. Appreciate all the inputs.

Ah well. Appreciate all the inputs.

Rte 1 radio is all over Europe for free via satellite dish. I listen to radio 1 and also Newstalk from Southern Spain with my Sky sat receiver and a satellite dish 1.2m but I recall it working previously on an 80cm dish.

The only ways you will receive RTE in Greece:

    1) Online via www.rte.ie/radio or a radio player like TuneIn Radio on your smart phone / tablet device. Just make sure that you're not accidentally on a 3G roaming data connection or you'll get a shockingly huge bill that'd be enough to pay off the Greek debts when you get home!

    2) Via satellite See : http://www.rte.ie/radio/astraimages.html

    3) Check the WRN (World Radio Network) schedules for RTE programming. www.wrn.org

Online is BY FAR your best bet, but just make sure you're on WiFi and not a 3G roaming service!!

I'd have your radio and/or looked then in that case, by any chance are you driving a VW with a Blaupunkt radio, they are dreadful MW/LW receivers.

I hear 252 LW well enough during the day my in truck in Belgium and on a recent visit to Dortmund 252 LW was fine.:)

When I lived in Munich in the 80's I used to get RTE on 567 MW at night.

Back on topic a smartphone with Tunein radio APP using WIFI will serve you very well.
