Just got a quote this morning off a contactor to agitate my slurry tank - €90 an hour.

How does that fair with prices ye've been quoted?

 €45/€50 an hr. Where the f*ck is this fella getting €90 an hr from? Okay I'll be ringing him this evening telling him lower his price or I'll be going else where.

Not necessarily- the big agitater on a 160hp tractor @ €90/hr may be better value than an average one on a 125hp tractor @ €45/hr...

well the lad that did mine has good high output gear but i know him and he said there is very little money out of it at that, so maybe the lad at 90/hr is just tryin to make a fair living..

90 euro for an hour of agatition isnt bad considern he has diesel, to pay and wages with would be around 100 a day 160hp with full rev for an hour would fairly go through diesel, then he has ware and tare on the tractor and machine, at the end of the day he wouldnt have much out of it

if he just has a high output normal slurry pump is a bit OTT to be charging 90e. I would consider 70e + expensive. FFS I can get a 30t bulldozer for 90e an hour

Rang the contractor this evening and the best he'd do it for was €80 an hr. He said he wouldn't be making much out of it after travelling (8 miles to and fro), diesel, wear & tear, wages etc etc. I'm running a business so at the end of the day I need to get the best rate so I'm going to price another few contractors.

Anyone got any quotes from silage contractors yet?

He's probably trying to get cash in to make some payments. Working at cost or a loss is no good for anyone but there are lots doing it across lots of business sectors.

Would be interesting to see a contractors income thread similar to the farm income thread. Some contractors simply defy logic especially in today's world of a high diesel prices and everything costing a fortune. 100,000 euro would buy you maybe a good decent tractor but you would have to spend nearly another 100 grand to put a machine behind it. And then everything depreciates at an alarming rate.

In fairness 100 grand would buy you a fine dairy herd and bring in a milk check every month .
