Sold my car today and honestly was getting a little teary eyed as i watched her
being driven away. Honestly was a great car and gave me no trouble at all.
Best of luck to the new owner.

    I'm sad :o

So cheer me up and tell me what was your favourite car and post a picture if you
either still have it or had to let it go. (You'll still have a picture if you were really
fond of it) Throw in why it was so special for good measure!

Recently, and reluctantly ( for financial reasons ),I had to part company with my 98 Lexus GS300.
For comfort, ride, reliability and sheer smooth but beastial power, I can say, hand on heart, I was truly privileged to own her.
My sense of loss has been mitigated by the fact that she went to a fellow Lexus enthusiast, and also by the fact that I've replaced her with a 07 Honda Accord iCDTI.

Long live Lexie and all who sail in her!

Couldn't justify keeping it with two other cars in the house.

Try 20+ vehicles around your house....

    Edit: Anyways...

I still have my first car I got in 2005 when I was... 15. Brown book car :pac:

I was very sad and happy to see my Fiesta go. I did get a fair bit for it but was it worth it? Fired a load of new parts into it, I had the engine out of it 2 times in 3 months, cut and got the sills re welded, full house on new fluids... Drove like a new car when I was finished with it, one of the best cars I've ever had!

I worked on it a few weeks ago, strut in bits, m+s tyre blown, drop link smashed, ball joint gone, my air horns taken off and sold, sticker bombing taken off, tacky wheel trims... I was very, very sad to see it like that :(

Although nothing saddened me more than seeing Todd go. It was such a nice, well minded car. Best car I ever owned. I used to see it flying around Ashbourne, where did it ever go to does anyone know? :(

I was sad to sell my Civic; it was the first car I bought myself (having driven my mother car for a few years when I first got my license) and it was the car I wanted since I was a kid. The pain was eased by the fact that I traded up to a bloody awesome Accord and then to an Integra, but that Civic will always stay close to my heart... *sniff*

Truth be told I would buy that car (or one like it!) back in the morning if it came to it.

I agreed the sale of the Volkswagen Golf GTI about 18mths ago and was getting a good price. The moment i drove away in my car i regretted that decision. The buyer needed an extra week to come with some cash because he was short but in the end he needed longer and i told him it was no longer for sale. :)

Several better-than-thous in here have ridiculed it, but I loved driving the '03 2l Astravan I sold recently. It had a few minor flaws but it was a great commuter, surprisingly good fun to drive on country roads, and got me through 4 house moves with barely a hitch. Gone to a good home in Mayo now, with a guy that drove his previous model to the junkyard after buying mine.

Sadly, I'll have to say goodbye to my 740i shortly too, need a break from the loony toons tax for a couple years. I'll miss that big V8, but I'm sure the replacement will be just as much fun, albeit of the turbocharged variety.

In 2010 I sold my E46 320i (to a boardsie) as it wouldn't accommodate my growing family (3rd kid). I was gutted to see it go. I replaced it with a practical but soulless crossover.

In 2002 I sold my ST-182 Celica to accommodate nipper #1, replacing it with a 1.6 Mark IV Golf. Needless to say, that was somewhat of a comedown too.

When they're all out of child seats and boosters, 5-Series Touring or A6 Avant here we come...

I'll be moving the ZT on during the summer me thinks and I miss it already even though I still have it, as much as I like it two years is two years and I have no intention of throwing money at her, don't quite have the stomach to run her into the ground either so someone else can do that.

These 3 cars are my most regretful sales.

Subaru Legacy RS series one, a rare find and took me years to finally get my hands on one. Had to sell it after I returned to college as I hadn't the time to put into it.

Subaru Impreza Sti Wagon, bought and drive for 2 years. At 250kms per tank of juice it wasn't cheap to run but a humdinger to go! Sold when the engine got a slight rattle. She's still on the road and I'm waiting for it to come back up for sale, may be a future repurchase.

Focus RS, Wanted one from the moment I saw Eamonn Boland use one for recce in a rally. Owned it for 3 years and mammied it at every occasion. Was sad to see it go but at the time 500 + miles a week it wasn't too practical. Definitely will be bought back very soon hopefully :)

Strange feeling watching your car being driven away I sold my 520d a few weeks ago and I'm still wondering what she doing now. Sold it quicker than I thought I would which left me borrowing the wife's for a couple of weeks and lamenting for my old car
But lamenting is over after buying a very unpractical Audi a5 coupe (have2kids) but by god I just love it

    205065.JPG

Had to regularly go to a customer on the other side of the country 4.5 hour drive (no stops), put in a full hard working day, hotel, put in another full hard working day and drive back 4.5 hours (non stop) and be back in to another customer first thing the day after

The V8 petrol engine with the automatic transmission gave just the right balance of progress, comfort, and yet driving pleasure and entertainment. I don't know if I would have made it in another car...

SO just because its not a vw or a supercar its subject to ridicule by you? I can hold my head up and say that was the best car I've ever had, talking as someone who has had various makes of cars over the years from Germany, Japan as well as Italy. It was cheap, honest and reliable. It as a very special car to me and that's all that matters

Traded in my Honda Civic there a few weeks back. Great car, but it needed a few things replacing that would cost between between €600 and "blank cheque" to possibly fix it.

The Honda was a great car, brought me where I wanted to go, but fixing it would have been a money pit. New car is a metallic black Toyota Corolla, so happy with it, but it doesn't have the drop-to-3rd-or-2nd-gear-and-overtake-ANYTHING power that the Honda had :(

I hope her next owner is some little scobie bastárd who doesn't mind getting a few points on their license, and drives her well :pac:

Over 100,000 miles and six years it never had a fault ...nothing.
It's ABS system once saved my life when a lorry suddenly pulled out at a T-junction.

But on my very last journey with it (going up the country to collect a new car)the old thing decided to break down....I think it was sad and knew I was leaving it.
This photo of our last day together makes me feel a little sad.

But my fat auld arse and dodgy back needed something a bit more comfy than it's bucket-esque seats.....and I needed a diesel for economy...and I was too lazy the get the NCT done...so the only sensible thing to do was spend over thirty grand on getting something newer...:(

Nearly bought that, ended up with mine a year or two later. Couldn't agree more about the comfort, I had plenty of trips to Dublin during my 18 months of 7 ownership, it was like a trip to the shops. Course the extra litre in mine made it that little bit more fun... :)

I was sad to see the back of my 1995 Rover 214Sei, I bought it in 2001 with 39k miles on it, collecting it a few hours after passing my driving test. I put about 90k miles on that car over the following 5 years, I got a company car in late 2005 so parked the 214 up at home, didn't want to sell it, got rid of if the following February as we needed the space on the drive and I hadn't used it at all. My Mum was ill in 2003/2004 and I remember bringing her into town to see the refurbished Patrick Street with it's new street lights sometime in 2004. That little Rover did Newlands Cross to Silver Springs in 130 minutes before the likes of Cashel, Mitchelstown and Fermoy were bypassed.

My lovely Saab that I sold last year.I got intimate with that car all the time I had her:(. She had a 6 CD changer (first for me).I changed and flushed the transmission oil from the grey stuff to the newer red stuff.

Had the wiring under the two seats changed due to a problem when shifting the seats, the air bag light would come on.Had the Sid unit issue fixed in the UK for 60 quid including postage over and back.Sump cleaned out as a precautionary measure, lastest PCV breather upgrade to avoid sludging up of oil, plus other stuff I can recall right now.I had to sell her due to finacial problems:(.

Then recently I see her advertised again on DD, still there the last time I looked.Talk about rubbing my nose in it:mad:.

This is a pic before I sold her.I have loads more:p, as the OP guessed.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Comfort, you don't have the comfort seat pack, or do you? And where are the interior pics your ad promised yesterday? :p

Only messin' Adam, your car James looks fantastic. Original Irish is very rare for a V8 E38. Impressive service history. I found M&G very good.

The main motivator for your move down to a 2.3 turbo would be to save €750 motor tax, I presume? You thinking Volvo T5 or Saab HOT here?

....dear oh dear, this thread has the potential to put us all in a fit of depression - or become a best-seller.

Suffice it to say that my recent experiences (see my sig) is overshadowing my attempts to replace them with something, anything, with some soul.

I thought I found it on Sunday - beautiful, haggle-able price......but the tax, oh, the tax. 4-figure sums for tax are simply unwearable - no matter what the badge.

    Depressing, really.

    Ode To The Motorist

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Ha, I was updating the ad while you were posting unkel! No, I've been fortunate enough to have never sat in BMW comfort seats, for, like cruise and aircon, I fear I'd never be able to live without again. I think I may have the same problem if I buy Scandinavian though!

Yup on tax, I don't mind paying for petrol or insurance, but the tax has to go for a year or two. My choice replacement would be an 850R, but I'll settle for a T5, V70 equivalent, or possibly a 9-5 HOT. I drove a HOT last weekend though, and while it was nice, it was a wee bit... uh... ...safe for my liking. The R was nuts. I liked it a lot. :)

I may end up in something from the bangernomics thread though, I want a fair price for the 7 and the wife has convinced me that since I'm being sensible in selling it, I should be sensible in waiting for the cash before I buy the replacement. Going to have a look at that bastardised Cork 9-5 in the next couple of days as it happens.

    Yeuch, sensibleness...

    Thanks Voodoomelon!

I had my '06 Vectra from new and put up about 150k km before the company I worked for shut down and I had to hand it back. I loved that car, as at the time I got to pick it, the spec, the colour etc., and it transported my first born for the first three years of her life.

The day I had to hand it back was the last day of work, we all went in to finish up, a real depressing moment. Its the only time I could go to work and go on the lash as I wouldn't be driving home that day :(. On the plus side, it was one of the most memorable nights out in many a year, and just as I was about to get a taxi home, I found two fifty euro notes on the ground. I ate like a king in Charlies of Dame St!

I'm a bit sad in that I can't bring myself to sell my cars! I've four and the wife has her own car. Two of mine are under covers and the third one I've been collecting stuff for it for the last three to four years to give it a facelift and hope to get cracking on it in a month or two, just need to get a garden shed up I bought to store all the parts of the car as I strip it down to work on.

Miss my first car. A 2004 Kia Sorento XS. Bought it when I was 18 and had my fixed contract signed, Brought it in from the uk because I couldnt find one like it here. Full time 4wd with low range, 5 speed auto with tiptronic, power & heated leather seats, climate control, heated windscreen, power heated mirrors, 18" Kia/Team dynamics alloys , chrome sidesteps.

The rear glass opening seperatly from the boot and from the keyfob was the handiest feature. It was a brilliant car and never let me down.

    Based on cartell.ie, it is a 316i.

My old 320i had the same kit and was also in "brilliant red" -best colour for them IMO.
Mine also had the ///M badge on the back - I was told by a few different "experts" that I owned an M3. In one case, it became quite heated and he wouldn't back down. When I explained that mine had two more cylinders than the M3 I was told I was wrong. Even pointing at my brake drums didn't make him change his mind. I think I eventually told him to f-off.

I know it's a choice thing, but I'd never leave an M badge on a BMW. You're inviting nonsense like that from the uninitiated; and the initiated know that 90% of the time the badge refers to something retarded, like a steering wheel or alloys. If I ever buy an E60 M5 I'll look into swapping the wings. :)

    Lovely looking E30 Limerick man

ah sure kbannon you had a M3 you just didnt want to broadcast it :D and you swap the wider arches and M3 badge for a MTECH badge and hid 2 cylinders to disguise it as a M20 instead of a S14 :P

My trusty corrolla 1.3 vvti got me out of an awful hole 5 years ago, it's at 165000 miles now and no doubt good for the same again..just got offered a beaut of an Alfa 1.8 156 2 years newer and for nothing (a mate is selling, never saw it have an issue)...i know all to well the reputation that follows, however i have also heard the postive stories from people who look after them!
Just checked the prices and the corrolla (milage and al)l is worth at least twice the alfa!!

THe alfa is clean and is unreal to drive....am i mad??

Fab E30 LM, what was it? When I win Euromillions, I'm buying a small one for my youngfella, and a wide one for myself. :)
