    Hi all,

having been a phone admin in a previous job, I've been assigned the job of getting our PBX up and running in our new office, and I have a few issues.
I was hoping for some guidance, and possibly to get a hold of some cheap or second hand kit.

So, we were in a managed office with 2 ISDN PRIs (4 lines) connected to a ShoreTel ShoreWare BRI30 phone system.
    http://www.shoretel.com/products/uc_platform/hardware/switches/bri_trunking/ShoreTel_Voice_Switch_30BRI.html

We've moved to a new office and put in 30MB fibre and 4 of UPCs (POTS ?) phones.

Our phone system is on static IPs, 4 handsets, IVR, voicemail basic features, and has a server to manage it running ShoreTel Director.
What I need to do is connect it to our UPC router, and while I was told the box can be connected to a SIP trunk, and UPC were all full of "yes, yes, Yes" when we went to buy it, since we got it installed, they are much less helpful.

Our infrastructure partner reckons we need an Ingate, which they're saying will cost €1500. Seems like a lot, I thought media gateways were more like €150-200, but it could be that I've overestimated the capabilities of our phone system?

Anyone know of an alternative piece of kit, or better still, have outgrown some of their own and would part for it cheaply?

Digiweb offer SIP trunking which gives you the numbers and lines for free and just pay for outbound calls. A lot cheaper than PRIs.

    Does your PBX support SIP?

How many phones on the system do you have?

Sounds like you'll need new analogue phones at least, as what UPC supply is analogue as far as phones are concerned. I saw (even assisted) a similar setup at a local travel agency. They also have four lines plus a dedicated line for fax.

As far as I know UPC handled call handling/ringover/voicemail on their end. In other words it was a Virtual PBX. I could be wrong on this, as a UPC VAR was handling this particular account and may well have worked some magic
    unbeknownst to me.

I do have a contact at this VAR who would obviously know more than I do, just PM me if you need his number.

Have you taken your ShoreTel voice switch and old handsets with you? According to the specs it has provision for 30 IP phones, BRI, SIP trunks and a RJ21X connector.

Has UPC just connected their handsets directly to the analogue ports on their router and given you a call package for these lines?

As your PBX comes with a RJ21X connector you could connect that to the UPC router analogue ports as they will act as analogue lines. You will then just have to configure your existing PBX to use these lines.

Here is a image of how the RJ21X krone block is laid out.

If you are not looking to use UPC phone package then your PBX already can connect to SIP trunks so just pick a carrier and get the config from them
    Sorry meant to add. From

No need to purchase anything except the RJ21X Krone block if it doesnt already come with your PBX
