Skehard Road Roundabout - Being replaced with traffic lights

You'd think Cork City Council would have learned their lesson after having spent €200k getting rid of the roundabout outside of Finbarr's GAA club, switching the traffic lights to flashing amber after insane congestion and then finally rebuilding the roundabout.

This time they are digging up the roundabout where the Skehard Road, the Well Road and the Boreenmanna Road all meet. I've never in my life seen traffic congestion at this roundabout. Literally never. What the hell are Cork City Council thinking. Another huge waste of money. All I can think of is jobs for the lads.

These traffic lights hopefully will be on flashing amber within a week.

    Christ. They aren't?

It was bad enough when they got rid of the roudnabout otuside SuperValu in Blackrock. Never any problems til they did that

    I view it like this.

Mahon point opened. The junction outside of Mahon point is the worst junction in Ireland. There was space to build it as a signalised roundabout, but they didn't. And what a mistake that was.

Anyways, because of this, traffic constantly builds up to the CSO office. In order to aleviate this, they change the lights at the CSO to leave less cars through in order to reduce traffic congestion between the CSO and Mahon.

This cause a bottle neck at the CSO back the Skehard road. Anyways, this will keep going ad nauseum. The current roundabout is being replaced (I'd guess) because it is too efficient and is sending to many cars to the junction outside of Supervalu.

    Ridiculous planning.

This is being discussed in detail above.

    An absolute farce :-(

This was voted in by our councillors... Did any of them stop to think ?

Jesus wept. They are putting in a *wait for it* bus lane!

A f**king bus lane? Is there even a bus service from Blackrock to Douglas more than twice an hour? I don't think so. Unreal stupidity.

People will skip up the side road before the lights and come out at Silverkey junction. Nightmare.

Absolutely they will, and I wouldn't blame them either.
The residents around Lovetts are really going to suffer as a result of this poor planning.

I emailed Des Cahill about the lack of proper road signings on the bicycle lane and he said they were waiting for suitable weather to finish
