What's this mph nonsense? Kilometres are spelled with a "K".

Your average speed should be unaffected unless you're always doing one way trips into the wind.

I'm American and I still think in km and kph when I'm on the bike...

The only reason I doggedly stick with kph is because 30km/h sounds way better than 19mph. And 5km is just ten minutes away. 5 miles is closer to twenty minutes away.

That's ok. It's not your fault. Don't dispair.

Not wanting to be a pedant or anything but average speed will be lower when travelling equal distances into and with the wind.

Like Seamus said kmh FTW cause it sounds faster...

You're dead right. It's the same logic for convincing people who believe that an aircraft flying into the wind will gain it back if they fly the reverse leg with the wind. You spend longer on the slower leg (into the wind) than you do in the reverse leg (with the wind) so you lose time overall.

While we're on the subject of weather, the average temperature on my commute in today was 2.5oC and the minimum temp was 0.

On 15 November 2011, the average was 12oC and the minimum was 11.

On 16 January 2012, average was 3.4 and the minimum was 2.

I think we broke the planet - that or we've been moved to somewhere south of Australia......

However much fun you think you're not having, spare a thought for the grand tour riders who have to race several hundred km a day in all weathers at ridiculous speeds up and down enormous mountains, then get smashed into the tarmac at 60kph in a sprint crash that they didn't cause, then limp to the line and get up and do it all again the next day. And the next day. And the next day.

And then think about a bit of rain and wind on your recreational cycle.

Remember a donation of just €5 will buy 2 gels for a pro rider... give what you can.

Granted, they have a harder life on the bike. They also have nicer bikes than I have. None of this stops me being miserable in the weather we've been having recently.

Compared to nobody! They do what we and they no doubt love and get paid for it and get great gear/equipment and visit all these wonderful places and get all their needs taken care of while on tour. Plus, look at the tans! No need to compare them to you or I or any other job really!
