Using the bus you just tag on. Using the leap card unless you're travelling the maximum fare distance you present the card to the driver at the reader beside the coin box.

Not sure about those routes myself though.

Your best option if you get one bus is the Leap card and you just use the validator on the right as you enter the bus, if you get two or more buses in your commute you should use travel90 tickets or consider getting a Rambler 5 or 30 day ticket

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Fares--Tickets/Tickets/2-Journey-Daily-Weekly/
    Rambler 5 Day Adult €23.00

Valid for unlimited travel for 5 non-consecutive days
Valid on Dublin Bus scheduled services including Airlink and Xpresso (excluding Nitelink, Tours, Special Events and Private Contract services)
    No CIE photo ID required

    or a Travelwide monthly ticket
    Travelwide Adult Monthly €105.00

Valid for unlimited travel for 1 calendar month
Valid on Dublin Bus scheduled services including Airlink and Xpresso (excluding Nitelink, Tours, Special Events and Private Contract services)
    CIE photo ID required

Whatever ticket you use on a bus, there is no 'tagging off'.

If you're getting two buses then the Travel90 (10 journeys for €21.50) is the only sensible option as you pay one validation which will cost €2.15. You must board the second bus and validate the ticket within 90 minutes of the first validation, that's what the '90' refers to. On the second and subsequent validations, the machine will say 'Free Transfer'.

If you're taking one bus but doing more than 13 stages, the Leap fare is €2.40 so you'd still be better off using the Travel90 card.

If you're doing one bus and less than 13 stages then you use a Leap card, present it at the driver's machine and state your destination or fare.

OP, if you're getting the 145 from Bray to Donnybrook, that's 26 stages acording to the DB website (Donybrook church to Bray Main St.) so buy a Travel90 card.

Open to correction on this but I can't see any situation where it makes sense to validate a Leap card on the machine on the right on a regular basis, you will be deducted €2.40 and should be using Travel90.

Of course if you're doing a regular commute, the Dublin Bus rambler range will help - the 30 Day Ticket (the days do not have to be consecutive - can be over an 18 month period) costs €115 - that works out at €3.83 per day (Travel 90 will cost €4.30 per day).

If your employer will take part in the Taxsaver scheme then the monthly and annual tickets costing €105 and €1,050 may also be of use - check out the Taxsaver website at www.taxsaver.ie to see the savings in your tax, PRSI and USC that can be made.

Coylemj - you are spot on - LEAP is of no use in this scenario.

Far better to use either Travel 90 or a commuter ticket, depending on rate of use.

Wasn't aware that the 30-day ticket was for non-consecutive days. That means that as an occasional traveller who uses a Travel90 ticket, on any day that I'm going to cross town on two buses and back again, it would make more sense to use a 30-day ticket which per days works out at €3.83 instead of two validations on the Travel90 which would cost €4.30. I'd then effectively have free travel for the remainder of the day.

Only the rambler tickets and Travel 90 tickets are non-consecutive.

The monthly travel wide ticket is for a calendar month.

But you're right - its very good value.
